May #bloggerbliss

May has been an incredibly busy, but wonderful month!  I haven’t had a chance to blog much lately and I have some changes being made as I type, but I’m excited to be here for Bliss!  I love sharing my favorite things from the month and I hope you do too!  Link-up below with me and Meg!

I spent a lot of time with these two pups this month!  I stayed with Nick’s sister-in-law since for a week this month.  These two LOVE some attention.  They were helping me apply for a part time job at our local Y.  I haven’t purchased a membership to a gym yet because I’d love to just work part-time at one and get a free membership – that’s not looking too good though.  Oh well.

Also, Nick’s sister-in-law had her parents in town during the month.  They knew I was staying with her for a few days and so while they were all at lunch together, they sent her home with a cookie for me!  Truly the way to my heart forever!
It was so delicious!  I tried to eat just half of it at work, but that baby was gone before I knew it!
Nick and I went to Florida as a “graduation present” of sorts for him, so we of course went to Disney World!!  Per usual, we had a blast!  We really wanted to try one of these gigantic cinnamon rolls at Gaston’s Tavern and it did NOT disappoint.  Luckily, we’re extremely active at Disney, so we burned those calories right off… maybe?
Speaking of Nick’s graduation, that did in fact happen and I’m so proud of him!! He’ll be continuing on to Grad School now, yay!!!
During the month of May, I also raised $306 for Diabetes and completed my 25 mile bike ride!! Everything about that day was perfect!  The ride was perfect, the weather was perfect, everything was perfect!  I’m so glad Nick snapped this great picture of my coming in from the race!
I was in Starkville this past weekend and we did some grocery shopping for Nick before I left.  He was trying to come up with good breakfast options that require minimal dishes.  I remembered this microwave egg cooker that I thought he’d enjoy and we found it at Walmart.  He sent me a picture yesterday saying that it worked out really well and he enjoyed his egg sandwich this yesterday morning!

This month has been really great and I had a lot of favorite moments (not as many favorite things).  I’m so thankful for the people in my life and joy they bring me!
Let’s see what your favorites were for the month, link-up below!

I need a first sentence generator

Do you ever struggle with the first sentence?  I’ve been struggling with the first sentence because there is nothing in the world that would make this post round out.  It’s random, I have a million little things on my mind and we’re about to cover a multitude of those!  Also, if you have a secret “First sentence blog post” generator, pass that along!
$280.00
I have raised $280 for Diabetes!  My ending goal is $300, so I’ll definitely make my goal!  The race is this Saturday, 4 days away.  I have one more training ride tomorrow.  Some joints are pretty sore right now, but overall I’m pleased with the end of my training.  It shows possible thunderstorms on Saturday though and I’m gonna be honest – if it’s pouring rain or thundering, I will NOT be riding.  I’ll happily donate my money and go about my merry way to Florida.
Florida.
After my race, we’re going to Florida and I’m so excited!  Lots of fun will be had in Florida between Saturday and Wednesday.  I’m at the frustrating point where it’s hard to concentrate on work, but at the same time, I need to make sure everything is done before I leave.  I find myself daydreaming about where I’ll be in 4 days, but then realize that I won’t get there if I don’t get my crap together! haha.  It’s been distracting!  Only 3 more days of work and then I’m free!  {Don’t get me wrong, I love my job}
Cinco de Mayo.
I enjoyed a margarita, queso dip, and rice w/ veggies.  It was fun, it was wonderful, and I didn’t snap any great pics.  #fail  We had an entire section of the restaurant singing along to some American songs w/ a Mexican accent haha.
Re-branding.
I still have this on my mind.  It feels necessary at this point.  Who knows when it will happen though.
Stitch Fix.
Do you get Stitch Fix?  I’ve been contemplating it for so long and I finally did it!  I only signed up for 1 so I could get an idea of how it works.  From what I hear, it can be expensive and I’m so cheapo with my clothes, so I’m not sure it’ll be for me.  It’s worth one try though.  My box comes tomorrow!  I’ll be sharing my fix and my thoughts and the pricing and EVERYTHING.  So if you’ve been thinking about doing it, then check back for that!
Broken Hearted.
I know you’ve all been aware of the precious little red-headed boy that went to be with Jesus Friday night.  Reading all of the instagram shares broke my heart in two.  I will be praying for this sweet little family and the pain they’re feeling.  I only ask that you do the same.
Hug those you love a little tighter tonight and remember this precious family (and the many many many other families who have to suffer through the same devastation) in your prayers.

Blessed by a change in perspective and I’d like to #payitforward

I just got back from a beautiful bike ride.  I love days like this.  I get off a little early, I come home and watch Grey’s Anatomy, then I hop on my bike to complete the 11 mile loop.  It was purely beautiful.  Not too hot, not too cold, not too sunny, not too cloudy.  I thought I’d take a second to update y’all on my Tour de Cure race coming up next weekend!

Training:
It’s been going well.  As you know, I didn’t quite train very well this first part of the year.  It really dawned on me how close the race was in early April, so I started riding my bike more.  At that point, I knew I wasn’t going to survive 50 miles though, so I knocked myself down a slot to the 25 mile race.  I was bummed, but sometimes you just have to do it.  In all honesty, I wanted to just flat out quit right there.  I didn’t, thanks to lots of encouragement!  The hills on the 11 mile loop have been KILLING me, but they’ve also been making me stronger.  I noticed a change in my exhaustion level at the end of the hills today and I’m thankful for that.

Here is the elevation chart from my ride the other day.  I’m fairly certain that complete lack of elevation is when I pass over the Cosway (Reservoir).  The longest I’ve done up to this point is 16 miles.  The race is in New Orleans which is known for being FLAT.  I’m hoping these hills and the not so exceptional distance will even out when the hills subside on race day, but the distance increases.
I’m taking it pretty easy this last week, I’ll bike the loop 2-3 more times before race day and I’ll run in between.  I’ll probably take Thursday completely off to rest (with no rest days from here until then) and then do a light job on Friday to loosen my muscles up.
Fundraising:
I was really nervous about fundraising because at the start of April, I only had $37 raised.  I need at least $200 to race.  My goal originally when i was doing the 50 miles was to raise $1,000.  Clearly, I wasn’t so great with that goal, and just like I reduced my training goal, I reduced my fundraising goal so they were tough, but achievable.  I didn’t want to just raise the $200 to race, I wanted to raise a little more, so I went with $300.  Yeah, that’s a huge jump from $1,000, but remember that time I wanted to quit all together?
I am so blessed to say that I’ve raised $255 so far!  I only need $45 to reach my goal and my parents still plan on donating.  I have no doubt that I’ll reach my goal of $300, but if I was able to give more than that to help create research and possibly a cure for diabetes, then I would be thrilled!  It’s not too late to donate!  If you’re interested in giving ANY amount… and I mean that seriously, I will appreciate ANYTHING… even $1, then click the link below!
DONATE HERE
Last night at bible study I asked them to pray for my race and the remainder of my training as well as pray that I reach my fundraising goal because I’m still a little shy of the money I need to race.  They opened up their wallets right then and there and poured money out to me.  I got $33 just from them pulling out spare bills in their purse or wallet.  I was tremendously blessed by their love and support and grateful that I have a sweet group of women to study the bible with!
Overall, I’m tremendously blessed by this experience.  Literally a month ago I didn’t want to do it and I didn’t think it was possible for me to do.  Instead of quitting, I just adjusted my goals and worked hard toward those.  I’m so happy to say that I’ll be racing next weekend with confidence that I will in fact survive the race and I’ll have the money to donate to the American Cancer Society, and it’s more than I even needed!
Have you been blessed by just shifting perspective and not giving up?
If you’re raising money for a charity, race, or organization, send me the link to donate!  It may not be much, but I’d like to #payitforward
On another note:
What are your plans for the weekend?
Do you have any fun/exciting races to look forward to in the coming weeks?
Did you have a good week at work?
Just share a story with me, I want to connect with you!
Have a beautiful weekend y’all!
