Over-Easy was Under-Cooked

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  I was a rebel today at work and wore my very special St. Patrick’s Day socks that I swore I’d wear no matter what – and that I did!  Professional?  Probably not.  Fun & Awesome?  Most Definitely!

How did you wear your green today?

This past weekend, we were suppose to go to our St. Patrick’s Day parade, but poor Nick, he got so sick this past week.  It all started with Waffle House.  Nick was heading back to Starkville for 2 days to do some work and then planned on coming back home to go to the parade with me and some of our friends.  Because I’m a “time” needy girlfriend, I suggested we have breakfast before he leave town, but he wanted to leave early, so I was willing to wake up way too early to meet him at Waffle House since they’re open 24 hours, ya know.  There were 2 people working… the waitress and the cook.  We ordered the All-Star Special to split and Nick got his eggs “over-easy”.  Basically… they were barely cooked, but that Nick… he’ll eat just about anything… so he ate them anyways.  He started feeling sick, of course.  By the time he arrived to Starkville, he was not feeling good at all, he ended up not even going in to work.  Poor thing was laid up in bed for the 2 days he was home.  On top of the sickness from under-cooked eggs, he was also experiencing a nasty cold/congestion.  He decided to still come back to Jackson, but wasn’t up for the parade or drinking with friends (understandable).  Needless to say, we will no longer be eating at the Waffle House – in fact, we then had the epiphany that we said the exact same thing last time we ate there… years ago lol.

Our plans were low key the rest of the weekend while he was on the mend.

I won the Whitney English Day Designer last week and it arrived this weekend – Two words…. IN.LOVE.  I haven’t figured out the best way to use it for me yet, but I’m loving it so far!! I’m hoping it will help me take all of these ideas in my head to the next level!

I’m really debating about joining in that Blogger Happy Hour that Erin @ Living in Yellow hosts…. this months guest is Bonnie and well, I adore her too!!  I do have questions that I could ask, and the session has been reduced to only $15 now, but I’m so hesitant about spending money on this because of all of those other questions…. Will it work?  Will it be worth it?  Will it be awkward talking to these people in a group chat?  Will they like me??  Because I really like them, and I really want them to like me lol.  Basically, joining in on this Blogger Happy Hour is a major blogger decision and I feel like the shy little girl in elementary school who wants to ask the big kids to play ball with her.  Any advice on making this decision?

Have a good week, friends!

What is it with March and thousands of Birthdays?

One of two things is probably going through your head right now… 1) Omg… She IS still alive… or 2) Omg… you haven’t been here for 2 weeks? I didn’t even notice.

Well, I’m back and I just wanted to catch y’all up real quick.

March is busy.  Extremely busy.  I’m already exhausted and it’s only the 13th.

The first weekend in March, I headed up to Starkville for a friends b-day celebrations.  Her one birthday request was that I run this CFA 5K race with her and so that’s exactly what I did.  Her mom came into town and ran it with us.  Afterwards, Nick and I went to a baseball game with another friend of mine whose husband is a coach for the team.  It was so great visiting with her – Our visits are always so far apart!  That night, we ended up participating in a local “beer crawl” which was unique and fun!

The next weekend was Nick’s b-day and I was over the moon excited to go back up to Starkville to celebrate this wonderful man!! My heart just beams with pride and excitement over him!  I couldn’t leave work fast enough to hop in my car and make the drive up.  We had another friend whose birthday was the day before his and her husband planned a surprise dinner party, so we went to that first and then all went out for drinks to celebrate both of their birthdays.  (side note: 2 of Nick’s roommates have a birthday in March, plus his sister, plus the thousands of other people who seem to have birthdays in March, geez!)

And if that’s not the greatest photo bomb, I don’t know what is!  Happy Birthday to Nick & MK!

After Nick’s birthday weekend, we both headed back to Jackson because he’s on spring break and I had to be back at work, so I’ve just been spending a lot of time with Nick.  Usually when he’s in town, I throw blogging to the wind – it’s becoming a habit.  I understand why I do it though, when you’re in a long-distance relationship, the time you spend together is limited, so when you have it, you use it!

The rest of the month will be hectic too though.  We have the St. Patrick’s day Parade this weekend, the next two weekends after that I’ll be in Starkville for various reasons, the weekend after that I plan on heading out to Houston and the weekend after that, back in Starkville for Super Bulldog Weekend.  On top of that, work has been really busy and I’m studying to take my insurance license exam next Friday (prayers greatly appreciated!)  Once I pass this exam, I can begin moving up the ladder at work and assisting my boss in managing and growing his business.  I have a conference to go to next month to learn how to better assist him with that as well.  Lots of growth and changes around here, but I’m truly loving the job and the people I work with!

I have lots of blog reading to catch up on and I need to get my butt in gear for that 50 mile bike ride I’m doing in May (because I haven’t trained… AT ALL) to raise money for Diabetes – yeah, I forgot about it too!! Geez…. Also… laundry… my oh my… laundry…. I need to do that as well.

So to sum up this blog post:
I missed roughly 2 weeks of blogging.
I missed it greatly.
I’m way behind on reading blog posts.
As well as everything else in life.
Mainly because I’ve been out of town so much.
And spending as much time as possible with Nick.
Celebrating his birthday, because he so deserves it.
I hope to blog more frequently, but with everything going on, there are no promises there.

Lastly,  don’t forget to link-up with Meg and I for Bliss on March 26th because I can assure you that I will most definitely be here on the blog talking about my favorites this month.  That is a promise.  I may not make it for any other blog post the rest of the month, but I’ll for sure be here for that!

So tell me, have I missed anything super great these past 2 weeks?  Any blog posts I definitely need to catch up on?  Tell all please!

Simple Gifting

If you’re anything like me – then you love giving gifts or making gestures to let others know how much you appreciate them!  Having just started this new job back in January, I’ve been faced with a thousand different questions, a million things I had no idea how to do and I would have NOT survived if it was not for this girl in my office.  She was so helpful and patient with me.  After just 2-3 weeks, I knew I wanted to get her a thank you gift.

What do you get for someone you barely know at work, but appreciate more and more each day?

I have just the thing!  Not only is this perfect for a co-worker, it’s perfect for anyone that you appreciate – teachers, mentors, Bible Study leaders, and more!

I spent probably 2 hours in Target coming up with the perfect thing and I finally nailed it.  I tossed  many different items in and out of my cart throughout that 2 hour period.  You want to think about the specific person you’re buying for.  At first, I had tossed in jelly beans and gum, but then remembered that my giftee had bottom braces.  I also went through a ton of nail polish colors, but she’s a pretty basic person (like me), so I didn’t want to get anything too bright.  I also had a coffee mug at one point, but I don’t remember her drinking too much coffee – so I put it back.

Here is what I ended up purchasing for my co-worker who has been insanely patient with my thousands of questions, who has walked me through filling out papers upon papers to turn in, who has edited and gone over my work a hundred times before I submitted it.

What it includes:
Snacks and Candy: I didn’t want to overwhelm the present with food items, but I thought Milano cookies and Ferrero Rocher Chocolate would be perfect – it’s classy and comes in a small portion size.
Travel/Desk Items: I thought these would be great for her to keep at her desk in case of emergency or to keep in her car or purse.  Lent Roller, Altoid Mints, Kleenex, and Bandaids.  These aren’t exactly exciting gifts, but when they come in a package this small, they’re a practical gift.  I wanted her to not just enjoy the items, but find the items to be useful.
Nailpolish: This was just a fun happy. I chose blue because it’s a basic color.  It’s not hot pink or neon, but it’s not red or beige which is something I’m sure she already has.
A Card: Don’t forget to include a card so you can tell the person WHY you appreciate them.  My card had something to do with unbelievable patience with my bazillion questions.
Not Pictured: A pack of Coke Zero.  She loves Coke Zero.  Constantly has it with her at work.  I knew that’d be a nice added gesture.
Think about the specific person you’re gifting for and then buy some basic items that are both practical and enjoyable, package it nicely, and deliver.
She was so appreciative when she saw my gift on her desk in the morning.  The said she was excited about trying that new nail polish color too.  I think it also helped secure any help I may require in the future, which is a plus.  I, of course, did not give this gift for that reason, I truly did appreciate everything and I wanted her to know that beyond the simple “thank you” I had given her a thousand times before.
Estimated Gift Cost: $13 including tax.
That’s not bad for a simple gift to show appreciation that solidifies a strong relationship for the future.
Other ideas: Gift cards, coffee mugs, monogrammed key chain, candle, picture frame, lip gloss, stationary.
The options are endless when you spend a couple bucks gathering a bundle of happies together for that someone in your life you appreciate.
Who will be on the receiving end of your next gift?
Who do you have to thank right now?
For whatever the reason may be – a mentor that helped you solve a problem, a teacher that has been attentive to your child, a Bible study leader who has gone the extra mile for your group asking nothing in return, a co-worker that has helped you adjust to a new position – Say Thank you with a simple gift!
