I’ve been at this “big girl” job thing for a little over a month now. I quickly began to realize that there are A LOT of perks to having a real job. I’ve had “real jobs” before, but not like this one. After graduation, I went and worked at Disney. I consider that a “little kid” job because I played more days than not. I worked my tush off though, cleaning rooms is not a cake walk! After that, I went and worked at Mississippi State University as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Again, I worked my tush off, but I lived back in my college town. I could wear jeans and a t-shirt to work if I truly wanted too. I got the same holidays as the students. Then I went into the grave of unemployment. It was cool at first, but it quickly became depressing and frustrating. Rejection after rejection. I picked up some side jobs here and there to keep me afloat, but then I finally landed this “big girl” job. I was a little skeptical at first. Not sure if I would really enjoy it, afraid that there would be no room for growth and can I just praise the Lord right now that none of that is the case! I quickly learned that there is massive potential in this job and I’ve been enjoying it more than I ever expected to. I love the people I work with, I love my boss, I love the actual work that I do. It’s meticulous, It’s organized, It’s unique.
The Perks of Having a Real Job
{1} Good People
This isn’t for everyone. You may hate the people you work with, but when I took my personality test, I ranked extremely high in needing to enjoy my co-workers. I could hate what my actual job was as long as I enjoyed the people I worked with. For me, a perk of having this particular job, are the people. My boss treats me great, my co-workers have been unbelievably helpful and patient with me.
{2} Free Food & Coffee
I’ve been able to get lots of free food lately. Not exactly great for my waistline, but my taste buds are definitely enjoying it. We have a kitchen area where people leave things they don’t want or where they are eating things they aren’t going to finish.
I walk in one day…. basket full of Reese’s! *score* I may have taken a few back to my desk to hoard.

I also need to work with good people! If I can’t get along with the people that I work with, I hate coming to work.
Yay for Valentine’s flowers being delivered at work!

That is great that you are loving your job and yay for getting flowers delivered on Valentines Day! x

So jealous! My real job doesn’t have any of those perks. Well we do get lunch every day, but it’s more like what they serve in elementary school cafeterias than Chick Fil A

I totally agree with you about the people who hate on valentine’s day. I celebrate love every day of the year as well, its nice to also celebrate on that one day also 🙂

Oh yes, we are definitely two peas in a pod here – I LOOOOVE free food in my office… except yours is way better and you can have Chick-Fil-A!!! Mike and I actually bought frozen chicken biscuits last night at the grocery store and I am HOPING they are at least close to the goodness that is Chick-Fil-A breakfast!!! I also love that Reese’s mountain. Oh, and if you need anymore Girl Scout cookies (or ever), Mike’s goddaughter is a Girl Scout, and I will happily mail them to you!!
