In Throwback Thursday fashion (#tbt), I decided to share my camping/hiking experience from years ago!
I’m one of those girls that wishes she was an outdoorsy person, but really isn’t. Seriously… my greatest fear of the outdoors are bugs (specifically ants and ticks). Ants because they are just crawly and all over the place… like ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE! It’s ridiculous. And ticks… because you don’t even feel them. How scary is that?
They can latch on and you’d never know! Which, during this trip, I was extremely careful and cautious, wearing bug spray like my life depended on it (because honestly, in my mind… it did!) and I still ended up with a tick at the end of the trip! omg… it was dreadful!
Anyways… hiking, I love. Camping, I’m not the biggest fan. I really do try because it’s something I want to enjoy, but I struggle. I’ve been trying to go hiking for a while now because I enjoy the fact that I’m always on the move with it, but I haven’t had the chance yet. I have ended up camping a night or two since this event, but I got some really great pictures that never made it to the blog, so I wanted to share those with you! We went camping/hiking back in… 2008? Yeah, 2008.
We met up in Atlanta and stayed a night with my Aunt & Uncle, the next day the boys went White Water Rafting while Patty and I enjoyed shopping and the Sex & the City movie in theater. We then met up to go backpacking for the next few days covering 10-11 miles per day. Luckily, Patty and I were miserable on separate days so the boys didn’t have to deal with 2 hormonal angry women on the same day. Honestly, I’m surprised these guys still even wanted to be my friend after this experience, but I’m happy to say that we did NOT hate each other after the trip. Patty, Matt, Nick, and I headed back to Atlanta a little early to spend the night at my nanny’s. Patty and I were tired of sleeping in a tent and were ready to get back home.
Now that I’m in better shape than I was back then, I think I may enjoy a long hiking and camping experience a little more these days. I’d be willing to give it another shot. I also think I handle experiences a little better now and try to enjoy things more. So if I get the chance to do something like this again, I’ll be sure to blog about it!
Prepare for picture overload.
I used toilet paper in the woods like a pro… or like a really grossed out person… |
Just enjoying a nice long hike. |
The water was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The guys loved the fresh water. |
The whole gang. Me and sweet Patty were the only girls… and probably the only complainers lol. |
The many faces of Heather…. oy!
We probably couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to go with… well, they might have asked for a different ME! lol But me, myself, and I couldn’t have asked for better! |
Nick is a pro at the whole camping and hiking thing! Fun fact: Nick didn’t miss a single camp out as a boy scout until he was able to drive. |
Oh these boys… they really are the best! |
The route we were taking.. I think? Honestly, I just followed.. never led! |
Have a wonderful day!
Do you enjoy hiking/camping/ or both?
Any funny stories or experiences from hiking or camping?

Yeah, I’d have to say I’m with you… I wish I could be outdoorsy, but I’m just not. I think the closest I’ve come to camping was sleeping in tents outside my parents’ house after proms lol.

I am no outdoorsy girl either! Hiking I love–a couple house to a beautiful waterfall, that’s fun. But sleeping and living outdoors is really not my thing!

I have recently become pretty obsessed with hiking! I always want to go camping and hiking, but then my boyfriend reminds me how much work camping is and how much I will complain, and we end up staying in a little cabin instead!

I always take my on TP when camping – its a rule 🙂
