Who am I?

Good Morning!

How was your Friday night?  Mine started out with a really great WORKOUT when I got off work.  I originally planned on doing a Kickbox class, but I got off later than expected.  I’ve really enjoyed circuit workouts lately to help get me back to the gym!  They’re challenging and always different!  Today I warmed up with a 25 minute treadmill walk.  I did the walk before realizing that it was created by The Skinny Student who I actually met at Blog Elevated this past year!  We didn’t get to know each other very well, but she was so sweet and I enjoyed following her blog when I got home!

When I finished that, I had worked up a nice little sweat.  I went on to do another Peanut Butter Fingers circuit workout {NO surprise!}  This one was TOUGH though.  I was a little nervous going into it because she said it was a workout to “kick her butt and leave her dripping in sweat.”  Well if you have read even half a post from Julie, then you know this girl is fit!  I’m working my way there, so I figured it’d be a tough one.  I was entirely correct.

I only completed one set, even though it says to complete two.  I wasn’t exactly “dripping” in sweat, but I “dripped” sweat.  Which is a huge accomplishment for me because sometimes I don’t think I sweat enough – compared to others who workout anyways, then again… I shouldn’t be playing the comparison game!

There’s the proof.

I’m hoping I’ll be comfortable enough to create my own workouts soon so I won’t be using everyone else’s! haha Right now, it’s nice to have these resources though!

Yeah, I know it’s not much, but it’s a start.  While I was at the gym, my mom asked me if I wanted to get pizza with her and my dad.  Originally I said yes, but then I thought about it and realized that I didn’t make great decisions about my food throughout the week and I really wanted something healthy, so I changed my mind and made a smoothie.  WHO AM I??  Really, pizza is my favorite.

The smoothie turned out great though!  One of these days, I’m actually going to make a pin-able recipe for y’all w/ legit measurements.  After all, that’s what a good blogger does… *sigh*  Let’s cross our fingers for that very soon!

  • a cup or so of orange juice
  • 3 handfuls of frozen blueberries
  • 2 large handfuls of spinach
  • couple dashes of flax seed
  • 3 big scoops of honey vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1 big scoop of almond butter
  • 1 little scoop of cocoa powder
  • 1 little dash of milk for extra liquid

When I made the decision to skip out on pizza, my first thought really was… WHO AM I?  It got me to actually answer the question for myself… which could have been really scary and unpredictable!

There’s the person I am and then the person I want to become.  The person I am is constantly changing in order to find the person I want to become.  I want to become a person who cares more about my health and long-term living, than that large bag of Reese’s.  I want to become a person who chooses integrity and class over outbursts of anger.  I want to become a person who lives to be 100.  I want to become a better friend, family member, blogger, girlfriend, fitness guru, and healthy/vegetarian eating expert.

Surprisingly, I’m becoming the type of person who turns down pizza for a smoothie.  The smoothie is a lot better for me in the long run.  That doesn’t meant to not indulge from time to time, believe me, I did this past week.  That’s why I felt a smoothie was in my best interest.  I’m noticing small decisions I make that are helping me become the person I want to be.  I think the ideal person I want to be will continuously be evolving as well.  You don’t want to get to a stopping point, realize you’re where you wanted to be, but then make no further goals.  I want to constantly be learning, growing, and improving!

It was important for me to join a gym because I knew I wouldn’t take my fitness to the next level if I didn’t.  I need that motivation on a daily basis.  It was important for me to become a vegetarian in January because I knew the leap I wanted to make, but continuously provided excuses.  It was time to stop making excuses and just do it.  It was important for me to change my blog because I lost interest in my old one.  If I wanted to be a better blogger and potentially use blogging as supplemental income, I needed to stop waiting and finally make the change.

So the question: WHO AM I?

I’m usually the person failing at one thing or the other, but I’m also the person striving to succeed, striving to learn, striving to grow, and striving to become a better version of me than I was yesterday.

I hope to do that through this blog, through fitness, through healthy eating choices, through service, through love, through compassion and understanding.

I am not always the person I want to be.  I look back at a particular instance and I’m ashamed of the choices I made or the anger I let control me, but every day is a new day and I’m so thankful for the opportunity of forgiveness and a fresh start!

The questions are always optional, but especially today.  This is more for you to think through for yourself.  If you want to answer and share, I’d love to hear it!  If you’re not comfortable doing so, that’s alright too!

  • WHO ARE YOU?
  • ARE YOU WHO YOU WANT TO BE?
  • WHAT CHOICES ARE YOU MAKING TO BECOME A BETTER VERSION OF YOURSELF?

This morning I woke up to an excellent yoga class at my local gym (wish I could find an outdoor yoga class!) and then headed home to sip on coffee while I finish up this post.  Today I’ll be studying for my Series 6 test (bleh, investments!) and doing some yard work.  My sis is coming to town, so that’s always exciting!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Bliss #3

Yay for another month of seeing what is bringing each and every one of you Bliss!  If you’re interested in link-up with us this month or any month after, all you need to know is you share your favorite things from the month – things that have brought you Bliss!

We are finally feeling some heat here in Mississippi and I’m overjoyed!  A few weekends ago, I was at the ball park and at the arts and crafts festival in the Cotton District in Starkville.  Guess what – I got burned.  I’m not a big fan of the tanning bed and I don’t like getting burnt.  I want to preserve my skin and keep it looking youthful, so I knew it was finally time to invest in some sunscreen for the Summer ahead.  Of course, even in the winter you should be wearing sunscreen.  I always have SPF 15+ on my face.  Always.  I decided to take a little further this year though and protect even when I least expect it (i.e. driving in my car).

Coppertone Sport SPF 50, for my active running/biking days
Coppertone Clearly Sheer SPF 30 for sunny days (driving in my car)
Coppertone Oil Free Faces SPF 30
Blistex SPF 15 for my lips (another missed spot most of the time)
Talking about getting ready for the summer – swimsuits and short skirts are vastly approaching and I’m head over heels in love with Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer.  I went with the Firming lotion to help with my cellulite.  I love this stuff.  Even though I don’t tan often, I enjoy having a little “color” on my legs and this keeps me from looking and feeling pasty white!
This month was also my birthday – another thing that brought me complete Bliss.  I love my birthday, but what I love even more are the people who make my birthday special.  My sweet co-host here, Meg, surprised me with some happies for my birthday!
I’m fairly certain I forgot something, but she hit the nail on the head with this y’all!
The cutest desk pad
Dunkin’ Donuts coffee
RunDisney bracelet – so motivating!  In case you can’t read it (Every Mile is Magic)
Confetti Cupcakes
Ombre Nail Polish
Of course, a Reese’s Egg!
I adore this girl like something crazy!  Thank you Meg!
Back to beating the heat for summer… lastly, I’m loving the new sandals I got!  They go with just about anything, they have great cushion, and they’re so light!
I would have taken a picture with them on my feet if it wasn’t for the Tornado’s that are about to rush through our area and if I had painted my toenails recently.  Either way, I love these shoes!
What is bringing you Bliss this month?  Link-Up and share!

March 25, 2014

I may have been a mess, but I passed {plus Kitchen Mix Up!}

Before I get started, I wanted to remind you to link-up with me and Meg on Wednesday for Bliss this month.  Share your favorite things from the month of March!  I truly look forward to seeing what y’all find & love throughout the month – whether it’s celebrating with you in the exciting moments you experienced or realizing that I need a new product in my life thanks to you!
—————————-
This has been an insane month y’all!! I feel like I’m finally starting to slow down.  As most of you know, I got a job back in January.  I had been searching for a few months and honestly wasn’t sure if this job was even what I wanted, but it was a job and I took it.  Turns out, I’ve been loving it.  For those that may or may not be curious, I work in the line of insurance and investments.  I do case prep and I submit applications and so on and so forth…. Technically, I’m an “assistant” which isn’t a terrible thing – the world would not survive without assistants, but I don’t plan on staying in this role for long.  One thing I needed to do was take my Insurance Licensing Exam so I can become an Associate Financial Rep.  My test was Friday and y’all… I was a HOT MESS last week.  Thursday evening, I was in tears over studying for this test.  I got off work late, felt behind on studying, and didn’t feel that I had a good place to study that would keep me focused.  Nick’s brother and sister-in-law came to my rescue!

I went on a wonderful walk with his sister-in-law and that helped calm me down (I hadn’t worked out at all that week) and then they were so diligent to not disturb me while I studied in their spare bedroom – They also left me study snacks (Seriously… they’re the greatest!).  Right before I left, I took a practice exam and I needed ONE more correct question to pass.  ONE.  Nick’s brother works in this industry too, so he answered a few questions, explained a few things…. when I say that I would not have passed without their generosity and knowledge – I WOULD NOT HAVE PASSED!  I’m so thankful for them and the relationship I have with them.

Crazy Eyes??
Thank goodness that’s over with.  I passed and I’m happy to be working towards my next goal!  I saved an Easter Egg Reese’s for when/if I passed the test, so I was able to devour that once I finally had the courage to look up my score (Technically, Nick looked it up because I was still too scared).  I sent that picture to Nick’s sister-in-law to let her know that I passed.  I celebrated in Starkville over the weekend by attending some baseball games and duh, duh, duh…. watching FROZEN for the first time!  It was amazing, just like everyone said, but I do think it was hyped up so much that it didn’t have the same affect it had on everyone else who saw it in theaters.  I did love it though and I love the music and I love the “twist” in the plot!  It’s wonderful – yet again, Disney does not disappoint.

As I type this, I see a box sitting under my desk… a beautiful box that holds a beautiful new computer.  Y’all…. I’m so excited about this!  My little laptop is about to bite the dust.  It’ll last me a little while longer, but I’m so excited to use my new computer to increase all of these blog related projects in my head, get back to vlogging, and so many other things!

When you leave blogging for days at a time…. your first post back just seems like a hodge podge of junk lol.  Do you experience that too?  That’s pretty much ALL that I’ve been experiencing this month…. bleh, I’m going with it!

KitchenMixUp

Lastly, I was excited to see Meg and Amanda’s Theme for Kitchen Mix Up this month!  Of course, with St. Patrick’s Day falling in March, the theme was GREEN!  You know what this theme got me thinking about?  Juicing.  The beautiful GREEN juices I used to make.  Do you remember when I juiced?  Yeah, me neither… it’s been forever ago! I threw my juicer in the trash because it made me angry…. yeah, I haven’t purchased another one since, so juicing stopped for far longer than I would have liked.  It’s time though.  It truly is time.  I’ve been dreaming about a beautiful juice for so long and with spring/summer right around the corner (Once mother nature gets her crap together!) it just seems like the perfect time to start juicing again.  In honor of this “promise” I’m making to myself to purchase a new juicer within the next month or two – I’d like to share my favorite juice recipe below!  I’ve shared it before on the blog, but this can be a beautiful reminder to you (as it is to me) that juicing can be delicious plus the health benefits are outstanding and completely worth the time, money, & effort!

Also, if you haven’t watched “Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead” – you really should.  Great documentary that can be found on Netflix about juicing!

This juice is called the “Beginner Green” and the reason is because it’s a great starter drink to get those veggies.  You can hardly taste the veggies, it’s completely delicious, but it holds FIVE cups of spinach and some celery.
