Being the best ME I can be

*Disclaimer: Wordy/Lengthy post, hope you stick around!*

I was recently inspired by {this post} from {LuLu Mom}.  It’s all about being the best ME that I can be.  She talks about how she does her best to be the best mom she can be or the best wife she can be, but sometimes the best thing you can do is to be the best you that you can be and in return, it’ll make you better in all other aspects.

I realized after reading her post that one of the last things I think about doing is being the best ME that I can be.  There are times when I make plans for myself, but things get in the way, or more realistically, I let things get in the way.  I plan on going to a fitness class at the gym [for me], but get invited to hang out with friends and have trouble saying no.

For some reason, every new year feels like it’s going to be different!  Every one goes in with a positive prospect that things will change, this will be “their” year.  I feel that too, I feel the excitement of a new Year and the feeling that maybe things will change this year and I’ll have more ups than downs, meet new friends and touch base with old friends, lose that 20 pounds, and so on and so forth…. After reading that inspiring post, I came to the conclusion that in order to keep up the excitement of a new Year, throughout the year, you have to find ways to take care of yourself – find ways that make you happy.

Yoga has always been something I enjoy. I also have some terrible back problems, nothing really diagnosed, but my back pops A LOT and I don’t sleep well at night sometimes due to back pain. I remember when I was doing yoga frequently and my back pain basically went away. I felt like it naturally aligned my back as opposed to going to a chiropractor. I’m also an overly stressed person and yoga would really help me keep calm when I’m stressed or tensed up.

Paying for things like a haircut, a mani/pedi, a wax… I find difficult.  Sometimes it’s because I actually don’t have the money, other times it’s because I just feel like services like that overcharge and maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about, maybe they’re reasonably priced, but regardless, I don’t take the time to pamper myself.  I need to set aside time to get my nails done, every now and then maybe get my eyebrows waxed, get my hair cut every few months to keep it healthy and shiny.  I could also go for a bubble bath or a foot soak more frequently.  It’s the little things that can turn any mood around!

Baking has become kind of a fun hobby for me.  It’s something that I want to be GOOD at, something that I want people to get excited over.  I also want to have it to give a gift to a friend or loved one sporadically.  Taking the time to bake can be seen two-fold.  I’m becoming a better me by practicing and getting better at something I love, but also I can be a better me by using this talent as a way to give to others.  This isn’t the type of giving that drains you, it’s the type of giving you enjoy, so it’s doing something good for yourself.

I also need to make more time for biblestudy and reading my bible.  I let things get in the way.  Last night, for example, I had a biblestudy, but I hadn’t had dinner, and then messed up a few things trying to hurry and get dinner and I just ended up stressed and frustrated at the circumstances and I chose not to go.  I was in a bad mood and I hadn’t eaten.  After I calmed down, I realized that that was Satan, finding excuses for me not to go.  I have to learn to fight against those so that I can be a better me by investing in my spiritual life.

These are my goals right now for becoming a better ME.   When we live in a world that is all about giving, giving, giving of time, energy, space, money, etc. it’s hard to get use to making time for yourself.  Surely I can find the time in my schedule to give myself a little bit of time each day to meditate/focus on what I’m thankful for and what inspires me, while fitting in these focuses from time to time to work on bettering myself.

Housekeeping

Good morning, well close to afternoon I guess!  I’m on my lunch break so I decided to catch up on some blogging.  Have a few housekeeping things to share with you!
{1} New Design
Right now, as I type, I’m having a beautiful new design being made!  It looks wonderful y’all, really!  I think as I start using it, I may make a change here and there, but as of right now, it’s just perfect!  It embodies what I want my blog to be about and it highlights my love for my beautiful State.  Kristen over at {Whiskey.Tango.Foxtrot} has been so easy to work with and really created something I know I’m going to love for years!  So be excited, it should be up on the blog this week!

{3} Guest Bloggers
I’m looking for some guest bloggers/commentors. I did a post last week about being from and living {In the South..} I wanted to expand upon that idea!  (I actually had a lot of comments about doing a follow up piece).  I’m looking for a guest blogger to post about being from/living in the North, or offering up some comments about being from/living in the North and I will compile a blog post of everyone’s comments.  I’d also like comments or a blog post on a Northerner’s view of the South, you can feel free to be completely honest.  I know that a lot of the Southern Stereotypes exist such as wearing no shoes, having no teeth, living in the boonies, all that jazz, so feel free to be honest, you won’t hurt my feelings.  I may disagree with some things, but that’s the whole point!  I know Honey Boo Boo sure didn’t improve the South’s look.

{4} Trade your blog for a day
I’d love to trade my blog for a day with another fellow blogger!  I’m looking for someone to write a blog post on whatever fancies them and allow me to do the same, in exchange, we can promote each other, encourage each other, and maybe gain a few more friends! If you’re interested, then leave a comment with your e-mail address, or you can e-mail me directly at heatherblack79@gmail.com.
*This is us, being best friends now! yay!*

{5} A link-up
I’m contemplating a new link-up… I just want to get some feedback on whether or not you’d join in, if you like the topic or if I’m just lame (really, be honest!), and what days you think would be the best to have a link up along with how frequently!  I’d really like to do something with home-towns.  A day where everyone can link-up and share something exciting that happens in their home town, a wonderful place to eat in their hometown, basically just promoting where you live and why you love living there!  So… ready… set… GO!  Give me them thoughts!

Enjoy your Monday!
