This semester has been AMAZING! I have had the extremely fortunate opportunity of meeting and befriending the sweetest Korean girl you ever did meet!
Me and Kendra met in our Personal Selling Class. I sat about 3 seats away from her and one day I had to borrow her book because I hadn’t had a chance to purchase mine yet… so I moved by her for our assignment. Each day after that, she moved one seat closer… and one seat closer… until she was in the seat right next to me! It made me giggle ๐ So we started chatting from there, introducing each other to the different cultures!
Some things I’ve learned:
– They don’t have bridesmaids at their wedding
– They sit and watch a movie or tv show as a family, then discuss it afterwards
– They eat breakfast and lunch together, but generally don’t eat dinner together because they’re too busy
– how to say Thank you! (coo-mow-wow… my best text interpretation! ha)
– They ride the train or shuttle everywhere (It takes her an hour to get from her home to school every single day using the train)
– AND SO MUCH MORE! It’s sooo amazing!
So, I decided I would cook her an “American” dinner, share some of my culture with her
On the Menu:
Grilled BBQ Chicken
Green Beans
Baked Potatoes
Rolls
and… S’MORES for dessert!
Grilling some S’mores! YUM-O! (yes, I watch RR)
Me and Kendra!
Sitting down for dinner
We had such a great time, and afterwards she said that all of her friends were jealous that she had an American friend like me who invited her over to my apartment because none of their American friends ever had. I feel special ๐
So, the next week, she invited us over for a Korean dinner and she made shrimp fried rice and this beef stuff that was DELICIOUS!!! After our dinner, she gave both of us a special present from Korea! She said they go in that little hook on your phone, but I chose to put mine on my keychain! LOVE IT!
I have really enjoyed getting to know Sweet Kendra and I’m looking forward to learning more about the Korean culture! What experiences have you been blessed to have with another culture??
