Culture Shock

This semester has been AMAZING!  I have had the extremely fortunate opportunity of meeting and befriending the sweetest Korean girl you ever did meet!

Me and Kendra met in our Personal Selling Class.  I sat about 3 seats away from her and one day I had to borrow her book because I hadn’t had a chance to purchase mine yet… so I moved by her for our assignment.  Each day after that, she moved one seat closer… and one seat closer… until she was in the seat right next to me! It made me giggle ๐Ÿ™‚ So we started chatting from there, introducing each other to the different cultures!

Some things I’ve learned:
 – They don’t have bridesmaids at their wedding
 – They sit and watch a movie or tv show as a family, then discuss it afterwards
 – They eat breakfast and lunch together, but generally don’t eat dinner together because they’re too busy
 – how to say Thank you! (coo-mow-wow… my best text interpretation! ha)
 – They ride the train or shuttle everywhere (It takes her an hour to get from her home to school every single day using the train)
 – AND SO MUCH MORE!  It’s sooo amazing!

So, I decided I would cook her an “American” dinner, share some of my culture with her

On the Menu:

Grilled BBQ Chicken

Green Beans

Baked Potatoes

Rolls

and… S’MORES for dessert!

Grilling some S’mores! YUM-O! (yes, I watch RR)

Me and Kendra!

Sitting down for dinner

We had such a great time, and afterwards she said that all of her friends were jealous that she had an American friend like me who invited her over to my apartment because none of their American friends ever had.  I feel special ๐Ÿ™‚

So, the next week, she invited us over for a Korean dinner and she made shrimp fried rice and this beef stuff that was DELICIOUS!!! After our dinner, she gave both of us a special present from Korea!  She said they go in that little hook on your phone, but I chose to put mine on my keychain! LOVE IT!

I have really enjoyed getting to know Sweet Kendra and I’m looking forward to learning more about the Korean culture!  What experiences have you been blessed to have with another culture??

HELP!

OK… I have a confession… I’m not all super techy and stuff… although, most people I know would assume I am because, get this.. my dad owns his own little computer company back home and I’ve actually worked for him before! So… sad to say, I’m not great with it.
So, I’m trying to catch up with the times with a blog and I just joined pinterest (which… I still don’t understand the hype, but I think I will soon) and I have a twitter that I rarely use.  The only thing I’ve caught on with is facebook.  So I’m tired of being in this rut, feeling completely unconnected from the world of technology!  SO HELP ME!!! There are a few things I’m wanting to do over the next couple of weeks to better understand this process…. and if you have ANY suggestions for me, I’d so greatly appreciate it!
1) Make my blog design AWESOME… I don’t want a generic template one, I want to create my own… and i want followers! Maybe I’m just not interesting, which if I’m not, then don’t follow me… haha but I want to make sure all of my follow buttons and such are working.
2) Understand pinterest… what’s the purpose? Do you just steal other people’s ideas that they post on there? Why do you follow other… pinners? ha I’m not sure if that’s what a pinterest person is referred to.
and 3) Is there some type of new hype I’m missing out on still?  I dont know…
I’d also like to take any other suggestions on just getting followers, I can take constructive criticism, so if it’s something about my posts, my layouts, my personality on the blog (which, I guess I can’t actually change ha, because its ME!)… anything at all! Please let me know!! I appreciate the fabulous 3 followers that I do have right now, I got excited about each of you! ๐Ÿ™‚
Heather
**And I promise.. I’ll start posting pics more often.. I’m on a mission to get my camera in gear!
