Thinking Ahead

Good Morning!

I hope everyone survived Monday!  Monday’s usually have the potential to “get in your head” and drag by!

I wanted to get into work early this morning for a client coming in, so BREAKFAST was quick & easy!  I went with 2 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of blackberry jam toast.  Of course, with a side of coffee.

I’m on day 16 of my 21 day workout challenge and I’m feeling really great!  Last night I opted for a one hour walk so I wouldn’t be too sore for my HIIT class today.  This class is becoming obsessive, I love it so much!  I’ll have to share more about what we do in each class.  It’s always different!  I’ll try to make some mental notes this evening.

I need to work on creating an editorial calendar because it was a struggle coming up with a topic this morning… but hey, pinterest always helps!

THINKING AHEAD

We live in a society that is constantly thinking ahead.  I’m terrible about doing this – I’m looking ahead to my trip to Texas this weekend, I’m looking ahead to buying my own house one day, I’m looking ahead to Fall & Winter with Thanksgiving and Christmas, I’m looking ahead to weddings & trips we have planned the remainder of the year.

I know it’s somewhat in our nature to think ahead in this way, but I was wondering what created this almost “need” to look to the future.  I came up with a few reasons why we are constantly thinking ahead and what it is that encourages this.

(1) Social Media

I was looking through my pinterest feed the other day and realized that there was an excessive amount of halloween pins.  It’s mid-July, but we’re already prepping for what Halloween costumes we want to wear and what type of party we want to have.

(2) Retail Stores

It never fails that I hear some kind of complaint about Hobby Lobby putting out their Christmas items before Summer is over.  Because we plan early, we must buy early.

(3) Competition

We’re constantly competing with the Martha Stewart’s of this world.  It may take them a simple week to prepare a grand fiesta, whereas, ordinary people may need months to perfect every detail.  We’re constantly trying to overachieve from the previous year – whether it be with ourselves or our neighbor.

I don’t think this is a bad thing, honestly, I just try to remind myself that every now and then, it’s important to live IN the moment and not constantly look TOWARD the moment.  I’m all for the excitement that builds for fall & winter, Christmas & Thanksgiving, and the opposite for when we’re looking forward to summer.  I love a good party theme and planning ahead, but sometimes we get so caught up in the planning, that we forget to just enjoy.

I’m guilty of this too, so I’m definitely not pointing fingers here.  The views from society as a whole are not going to change, so we have to remind ourselves of this simple fact in order to get the most out of this life!

  • What activity do you complete to stay active, but not be too sore for a killer workout you expect the next day?
  • Are you constantly looking FORWARD to something, instead of enjoying the moment?
  • What tips do you have for living IN  a moment?

Blanket Hoarder

Good Morning!! Who is ready for this 3 day weekend!?

Today isn’t even “hump” day because technically we’re already past our half-way point, yay!

Last night, I went back to my HIIT class and it was another great sweaty workout.  Maybe one day I’ll get over my gym shyness and snap a picture of my sweaty glory – have no fear though, I’m quite courageous in my car!  I have no doubt that this class will be a weekly staple for me now.  There is always an Ab class afterwards, so I stayed for that.

After my workout, I went home and cooked up DINNER, which felt extremely southern…. Meatless Morning Star BBQ ribs & mustard potato salad.  I’m honestly loving these BBQ ribs more than the real thing!  There is no fat pieces that you run in to and get grossed out by (no bones either!), the BBQ sauce tastes just like it should, and it shreds apart to create the right texture.

Then finished it off with a toffee crunch icecream!

I might have ended up with 2 desserts last night, but  when your mom offers you a Berry Shortcake later in the evening….. YOU DO NOT SAY NO!  Because it’s delicious, and has fruit, so it’s justified.  I made this on my blog last 4th of July!

BLANKET HOARDER

Do you have a blanket hog?  Maybe your spouse hogs the blankets at night… or you have a sister that when you sleep with her, she tosses and turns so much that she ends up with all the blankets (honestly, I’m not sure if that’s me or my sisters… I think we go back and forth!)…. well do you have a DOG who hogs the blankets?  I believe we have a hoarder in our midst.

Cappie has a pillow pad in my room where he likes to sleep.  He typically has his one blanket to ruffle up and get comfy with.  Well when I got back from Middle School Camp this past weekend, I had put 2 other blankets on my floor to wash later.  Lo and Behold…. he has moved them to his pillow pad and is hoarding them.

First, he brought one of the blankets over…

Clearly, he needed another though….

He’s such a goober!  Constantly cracking me up  with his pom personality!

This morning for BREAKFAST, I finished off my vegetarian bacon with 2 bacon biscuits!  I had a side of cranberry juice to wash it down.  It satisfied my hunger and now I’m off to work!

Splendid Swap Party

 Good Morning!!

I have missed y’all!  This past weekend I chaperoned a middle-school camp at Waukaway Springs with my church and it was the bomb.com.  I don’t have a lot of pictures, mainly because I didn’t want to put a bunch of middle schoolers on the blog without their parents consent and because I was wrapped up in all the fun!  We were team YELLOW (#yellowswag) and we pretty much killed it with competitions!  Your team could get points for a team member who did something good (i.e. clean-up after lunch when everyone else had left, be kind to someone, etc.)  and then we had competitions throughout the weekend where we got points, plus we had chants and cheers that got points for how good they were.  Basically, our team rocked it!  I had a blast hanging out with a bunch of middle-schoolers and my small group was the best!  It was quite an adventure for this “non-woodsy” girl though!

I made my sweet girls little goody bags with some candy, a note w/ my contact information, and a #1 sticker to get the in the spirit with our YELLOW team.

I arrived back Sunday night and was completely exhausted, but Nick was in town, so I mustered up some energy to spend time with him.  We had pizza with some friends, then went to TJ Maxx and Target.  I was in bed by 9am and slept super well!  Yesterday was a catch up day – so I did laundry, went to work, studied for my Series 6 exam, and went to the gym.

I finally received my Splendid Swap Party gift from Jess!  She e-mailed me to let me know that the Post Office delayed her shipment, so I finally got it yesterday and it was absolute PERFECTION!  I strongly encourage y’all to read Jess’ About Me page because she has been through some serious stuff and is SO STRONG!  I admire her so much!  Also, she lives right down the road from Disneyland… so there’s that nugget of information!

Here’s what Jess got me:

disney-gift

  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail Polish
  • Disneyland Post Card
  • H Disney Pin
  • Disney Coffee Mug
  • Limoncello candle

I could not have been paired up with a more perfect person!  She is the best!

Last night I attempted the 10 to 6 WORKOUT again and yet again… I only got through set 10 and 9.  This sucker can be rough.  Maybe I’m just lazy, I don’t know!  My goal is to get to a point where I can complete the entire 10 to 6!  It works every muscle and I love it.

After my workout I got sucked into the first episode of Big Brother this season!  It’s going to be good and I really like the players this season!

This morning for BREAKFAST I went for a bowl of Kashi Go-Lean cereal w/ blueberries & a Kashi Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie.

Now I’m off to work and I’m excited to do another HIIT class tonight!  That class makes me perfectly sore, it’s almost addicting!

  • Do you watch Big Brother?  Whose your favorite player?  (Remember I’ve only seen Episode 1 at this point!)
  • What’s your favorite workout class?
