Topics: Prayers, Training, Wedding, & Blogging

Good Morning Loves!

I’ve enjoyed a great weekend so far and it will be continuing on until Monday.  I’m pretty sure y’all don’t think I’m working at all right now because I keep talking about these days off I have and honestly, sometimes I feel the same way! I just had so many vacay days to use up before August that they all kind of found themselves around this time.  It’s been nice and relaxing.

I’m sending a request for prayers right now.  I’m still on the job hunt, but I have one scenario right now that I’m considering.  I’m praying about it a lot because it’d be a huge leap of faith, but it’s something I think I would love and be good at, but there are definite things to consider as I make my decision.  I don’t feel like I’ve prayed this much over where God is leading me in a while, but I know that my desire is to follow in his steps and be right where he wants to plant me and grow me.  I am leaning more towards a certain way, but I want to make sure it’s what he wants.  Prayers would be greatly appreciated as I continue interviewing and seeking out what’s best for me at this time!

Over the past few days since I’ve been away, I’ve also come up with my fitness plan for the next year and I’m excited about it!  As most of you know, I was having some anxiety over this triathlon coming up in August and the swimming seriously freaks me out.  I wish it wasn’t this way, but it is.  I decided to not do that triathlon, but I found out about another one that’s in September and it’s still a measly little beginner one.
125y POOL SWIM! (Doing a happy dance right now!), 10m bike, 2m run.  And I have until September.  I think this race will be good for me because it’ll get me doing a triathlon without having horrid flashbacks to how my swim went last time in open water.  It’ll get me confidant again in triathlons and I’m hoping get me geared up to train for a lengthier one next summer.

My plan: Begin training in August for Disney Wine&Dine Half-Marathon.  During this training, incorporate my super sprint triathlon training on x-train days.  After the Half, continue with training to complete a Full Marathon (It’s on my fitness bucket list, why not now!?).  Complete that in January or February.  After the Full, begin hard-core triathlon training to complete a legit tri next summer.

I’m getting geared up and ready for Jamey’s wedding next weekend!  I’m so blessed to be a part of her special day.  She actually posted this sweet message on facebook yesterday, it made me blush! šŸ™‚

I’m not gonna lie… I somewhat pride myself on being an amazing bridesmaid or MOH.  This will be my sixth wedding to be in and I’m over the moon excited about it!  I love being in wedding and I love helping the bride with anything and everything.  I mean… I wasn’t even in the wedding a few weeks back (Nick was), but I was the person who drove the bride to get her hair done for the wedding and I passed out programs to guests.  Anywho, I love it and in the event of tooting my own horn, I’m kind of good at it!
Moving on… from being selfish and cocky… lol
I’m way behind on your blogs… when I don’t blog, I also don’t read blogs.  I kind of shut myself away from the computer.  It’s sad, but at the same time rejuvinating, but in all seriousness, I really do miss y’all… which is why I LOVE instagram so much because I still feel like I can keep up a little bit.  Today though, I intend to catch up on most of your posts over the past week few days and I’m greatly looking forward to it!!
Hope you’re having a blessed Sunday and have the opportunity to spend time with precious friends and family!

How to Detox After a Wrecked Weekend

Hi there! I’m Christy! Heather asked me to guest post for her after a conversation we had following one of her recent posts, in which Heather mentioned that after a weekend of not so clean eating, she was going to drink nothing but juice for the next 2 days.

To which, I commented saying something along the lines of,ā€œNo!!!! Don’t drink only juice for two days! That’s so bad for you!ā€

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a nutritionist, a registered dietician or any kind of expert on healthy or clean eating. I’m just someone speaking from my own experience.

I’ve never tried a juice cleanse and I’m not opposed to it, but I do think that some considerations need to be made when delving into a juice cleanse. We all have those weekends where we just can’t pass up the cheese plate, eat an entire bowl of guacamole and drink way too much wine. Believe me, I’ve been there.

I’m all too familiar with the feeling of needing a total detox after a weekend like that, however, the best and healthiest way to juice is to prep beforehand, cutting out meat and dairy, sugars and caffeine at least 10 hours before starting the cleanse). So to go from a binge fest of eating and drinking to nothing but juice…can shock your system in a way that just won’t be good.

So, I’m here to talk about my favorite tried and true ways to detox after a weekend (or week!) of not-so-healthy eating.

Probiotics – Probiotics are healthy bacteria that help maintain the natural balance of organisms in the intestines. They’re designed to restore balance and detoxify the body. Our bodies are self-cleansing and probiotics are the tools in the detoxification process. They’re found most commonly in yogurt, so whenever I’m in need of a detox, I stock up on Greek yogurt.

I’ll usually have a bowl of Greek yogurt for breakfast. (my personal preference because of the high protein levels, but any yogurt with probiotics will do) and top it with fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, you name it!)

Other Breakfast Ideas:
-Whole-grain waffles topped with Greek yogurt (mixed with 1 tsp maple syrup) and your favorite fruit
-Smoothies: 1 cup Greek yogurt with 1 cup milk (I use either soy or almond) and a your favorite fruits

Meals – When I’m in ā€˜detox mode’ I eat at much Greek yogurt as possible. Parfaits for breakfast and smoothies for lunch., froyo for dessert. Mixed with fresh fruit, this is one of the best ways to automatically start to feel better.

Salads are perfect for lunch and dinner since they can be filling. The basic idea is to just eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible. Being a vegetarian, this is super easy for me.

Favorite Lunch Recipes:
–Quinoa and kale with grape tomatoes, dried cranberries, walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette
-Spinach with cucumbers, strawberries, dried cranberries, walnuts, mint, feta cheese and champagne vinaigrette

Dinner Options: You can grill some kind of lean meat or fish with some veggies. Now that it’s summer time, kebabs are a great clean eating idea. Chicken with peppers, onions and zucchini with a small side salad are a great option! I also love cooking with quinoa. This recipe from Pinterest is one of my absolute favorites! It can be eaten hot or cold so it makes for great left overs for lunch the next day!

Workouts – Want to detox fast? Sweat it all out. Hot yoga is one of the BEST ways to detox. I highly recommend trying it after a long weekend of partying. If yoga isn’t for you, just get moving. Go for a run sans headphones. Take in the your surroundings. Go for a long, brisk walk with a friend. Pump some iron. Try a new fitness class. Just get moving! I find that working out first thing in the morning, especially after a weekend of partying, really helps to kick off the ā€œfeel good againā€ process!

Water. Water. Water – At the end of the day, the best way to cleanse your system is to just flush it all out. Drink tons of water.

Juice cleanses require some prep work, but so does living a healthy life style! The next time you plan a crazy weekend, or a vacation, do some work in advance. Buy some yogurt and fresh veggies and schedule a work out date with a friend for when you get back. This way, when it’s time to get back into it and start feeling great again, you have no excuses.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for these great tips Christy!  As most of you know, I’m a huge juicing fan, but Christy made a lot of sense because I can see where that would “shock” your system if you went immediately to something like that.  I’ll continue to add juicing into my every day diet because of the great benefits I get from it, but next time I have a Wrecked Weekend for the diet, I’ll use these tips for sure!

My friend Meghan just talked yesterday about how her husband is juicing his way to health and she shared some great benefits he’s getting and some good tips on juicing.  Now I know that I definitely need to invest in some mason jars!

Caution: Productive Evening Ahead!

I’m watching the Office.
I haven’t seen all the seasons, so I’m catching myself up.  I’m at the part right now where Jim got moved back to Scranton and now his new girl, Karen, is there and well… it’s just kind of weird.  It’s good though, I like seeing it all unfold, finally…
I changed up my layout a little bit, I just wanted something a tad different.  I may change it again soon, we’ll see.
I’m going through some serious debate about what job I want in August.  I had an interview today for a sales position and I scheduled an interview for the 22nd that would be a wonderful job, a job I would love, but it doesn’t exactly pay well.  I’m just in this whole fog about where I’m suppose to be and what God has planned for my life.  Prayers would be greatly appreciated friends!
For some reason I feel like I’m tired a lot lately… I don’t know if it’s just lazy bones within my body or if I need to get that checked out.  I would just rather sleep in instead of wake up and workout or spend time reading my Bible… and then I have recently started craving a nap right after work.  Hopefully this will wear off because I don’t like this feeling!
My triathlon training is less than stellar.  Again, going back to what I mentioned before, I haven’t been motivated to work out in the morning… mainly the swims.  Why can’t I just LOVE swimming like other people do?!  I’m going to try to get back on the wagon over the next few days, but I don’t think I’ll be doing that triathlon in August like I originally planned.  I think I’d be a lot less stressed if I didn’t feel the pressure of swimming in a race right now and just continued on the triathlon training to stay fit and then gear up for my half training that starts in August.
What’s on the agenda tonight, you ask?
I’m about to start cooking dinner (Tilapia and Rice)
Work on a wedding packing list for my friend Jamey
Watch Big Brother
Run 60 minutes (part of that triathlon training)
Apply for 2-3 jobs
Pack up some of my kitchen
I’m heading home for another long weekend, yay! I’m excited to spend time with family, I’m going to this Advocare party to learn about that stuff that everyone’s been raving about, I’ll apply for more jobs obviously, I’ll probably have a jewelry/blogging day with Nick’s sister-in-law (she wants to learn more about blogging and I’d love to try my hand at a piece of jewelry) and then just relax and enjoy it.  Maybe I’ll remember to take pictures, make things interesting, and then I’ll have something fun to write about!  We can hope!
As I continue to post random posts, you can expect random pictures within those posts (although I didn’t find any for this particular one… so it’s bare) because honestly, nothing is going on in my life that’s too exciting.  I had a great 4th of July weekend and then wrote about it all in ONE post and now looking back… maybe I should have extended the experience into a few posts haha.
Lastly… I’m craving Japanese now.  Michael, Jim, Dwight, and Andy are eating it right now on the show.
