Fresh Water Pearl – Japan at Disney World

Nick and I went to Disney World for 4th of July Weekend, Here’s the re-cap in case you missed it:

  • Independence Day 2014 Weekend

Ever since I was in the College Program at Disney World, I’ve wanted a Fresh Water Pearl from Japan at Epcot!  I never got one because (1) I was afraid it’d be too expensive (2) It was way too busy or (3) I’m ridiculously indecisive.  Every time my roommates and I would go to Epcot, I absolutely loved going to Japan!  It’s my favorite place to browse in Epcot and I would always stop and watch others open their oysters and receive their pearls!  Once I left the College Program, I never failed to mention it on every trip back – this trip over the 4th of July weekend was no exception!

The conversation went something like this…

Me: I think I’m going to get a Fresh Water Pearl this time!

Nick: Oh good, you always say you want one

Me: Yeah… but then again, I don’t know if I should spend the money

Nick: Heather, you say you want this every single time you come, you should get it!

We get to Japan.

Me: Let me ask how much it is

Sweet Japan Man: $17 for pearl, then you can pick your setting.

Me: Oh ok, let me look around and think about it

Walk around the store a little bit

Me: I kind of like this (a purse, some chopsticks…. whatever!), Maybe I should get this.

Nick: No, go get your pearl.  You’ve always wanted one!

Me: Well okay then!

I got all giddy inside and was really excited when I finally decided I would purchase my own pearl.  I knew I wanted a pearl ring, and I honestly liked the simple look of their cheapest setting, so being the frugal one that I am, that’s what I went with!  Pearl – $17    Ring Setting – $35

The process was a lot of fun and very easy.  They give you a numbered card and when your number is called, you get to pick your oyster from the fresh water.  Being that I’m indecisive, this process caused me a little bit of anxiety at the time.  I finally picked the oyster I wanted though.  Then the super excited Japanese girl teaches you how to count 1, 2, and 3 [Sun, Knee, Itchy].  Then she cracks open the oyster and seeks out the pearl.  They say that the average size is 6.5!  She started measuring mine and it went all the way up to 7.5! [In all honesty though, I saw quite a few pearls opened and all of them were bigger than 6.5]  Then she goes on her drum to let everyone know that you got a large pearl!

I then went and picked out my ring setting and was told it would be ready in an hour!  At this point, Nick and I had to take a picture with Minnie & Pluto (I get a free 5×7 with the Chase Disney Visa Credit Card I have) and then we came back to pick up my ring!

I originally purchased it to go on my right ring finger, but my fingers were a little swollen from the humidity that day and I accidentally got it one 1/2 size too big for that finger, so now I wear it on my left pointer finger.  I got it as a size 4.5, but I need a size 4.  Nick’s sister-in-law, Kathryn, thought that was insane!  I’ve always had really small fingers though, even after popping them practically my whole life!   Having recently worked at a jewelry store this past Christmas season, I know I can get “speed bumps” to tighten my ring which I think I’ll do at some point so I can wear it on my right ring finger again!

I’m absolutely in love with this ring and it will always remind me of the most perfect day Nick and I had at Disney!

  • Have you gotten a fresh water pearl ring before?  Where at?
  • Are you like me about purchasing things for yourself?  I have a hard time buying something unless I know I really want it or really like it!  This makes me very indecisive sometimes.

Fun {Fall} Workout

Good Morning!

I’ve completed 17/21 days for my 21 day challenge!  I’m so close to finishing this up and I’m feeling better than ever!  I can’t wait to arrive at my cousin’s tomorrow and plant myself by the pool.  I still have 4 more workouts though and if I can finish that, then I’ll get a prize from Nick! *happy dance*

Last night, my WORKOUT started with 10 minutes on the eliptical, but the one that slides… do you know what I’m talking about?

Big Brother was on at the time and it was a challenge to not look at the screen.  I’ll go home and watch that after work today!  Once I finished on the eliptical, I opted for a workout by It’s Progression.  I realized in all these circuit workouts that I haven’t done much with my arms.  Honestly, I hate working my arms because I feel so dang weak! I love working my legs though.  It was finally time to bite the bullet.

I didn’t complete the 3 circuits, but I did 2.  I really enjoyed the jumping jacks & planks in between each exercise.  And honestly, the fall theme attracted me because yesterday & today actually feel like Fall in Mississippi!  Crazy, right?!

When I got home from the gym, Cappie was looking WAY.TOO.CUTE!  We had a little mini photo session

I realized that my frontal camera is ridiculously grainy compared to the reguarl camera on my phone.  I’m looking forward to a new phone in October!  My iphone has been a pain in my rear lately!

Back to that dog though, I love him so stinkin’ much!  He’s so full of personality and he’s pretty obsessed with me right now, which I love!  When we first got Cappie, he wanted to be like our cats.  Of course, cats have no problem jumping on things so they would always sit on the back of our couch.  It took Cappie a few stumbles to finally figure out how to make that work, but he nailed it!  We’ll get home from dinner a lot of times and he’s sitting up there wagging his little tail at the perfect height for petting.

  • Are you starting to feel Fall weather creep in?!  How crazy is that??
  • What little personality quirk does your pet have?

I think our weather is cooling off like this because I see 4-5 days of thunderstorms in our near future.

Thinking Ahead

Good Morning!

I hope everyone survived Monday!  Monday’s usually have the potential to “get in your head” and drag by!

I wanted to get into work early this morning for a client coming in, so BREAKFAST was quick & easy!  I went with 2 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of blackberry jam toast.  Of course, with a side of coffee.

I’m on day 16 of my 21 day workout challenge and I’m feeling really great!  Last night I opted for a one hour walk so I wouldn’t be too sore for my HIIT class today.  This class is becoming obsessive, I love it so much!  I’ll have to share more about what we do in each class.  It’s always different!  I’ll try to make some mental notes this evening.

I need to work on creating an editorial calendar because it was a struggle coming up with a topic this morning… but hey, pinterest always helps!

THINKING AHEAD

We live in a society that is constantly thinking ahead.  I’m terrible about doing this – I’m looking ahead to my trip to Texas this weekend, I’m looking ahead to buying my own house one day, I’m looking ahead to Fall & Winter with Thanksgiving and Christmas, I’m looking ahead to weddings & trips we have planned the remainder of the year.

I know it’s somewhat in our nature to think ahead in this way, but I was wondering what created this almost “need” to look to the future.  I came up with a few reasons why we are constantly thinking ahead and what it is that encourages this.

(1) Social Media

I was looking through my pinterest feed the other day and realized that there was an excessive amount of halloween pins.  It’s mid-July, but we’re already prepping for what Halloween costumes we want to wear and what type of party we want to have.

(2) Retail Stores

It never fails that I hear some kind of complaint about Hobby Lobby putting out their Christmas items before Summer is over.  Because we plan early, we must buy early.

(3) Competition

We’re constantly competing with the Martha Stewart’s of this world.  It may take them a simple week to prepare a grand fiesta, whereas, ordinary people may need months to perfect every detail.  We’re constantly trying to overachieve from the previous year – whether it be with ourselves or our neighbor.

I don’t think this is a bad thing, honestly, I just try to remind myself that every now and then, it’s important to live IN the moment and not constantly look TOWARD the moment.  I’m all for the excitement that builds for fall & winter, Christmas & Thanksgiving, and the opposite for when we’re looking forward to summer.  I love a good party theme and planning ahead, but sometimes we get so caught up in the planning, that we forget to just enjoy.

I’m guilty of this too, so I’m definitely not pointing fingers here.  The views from society as a whole are not going to change, so we have to remind ourselves of this simple fact in order to get the most out of this life!

  • What activity do you complete to stay active, but not be too sore for a killer workout you expect the next day?
  • Are you constantly looking FORWARD to something, instead of enjoying the moment?
  • What tips do you have for living IN  a moment?
