Training Update!

Well, It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on my training!

I’m still planning on doing the Mississippi Blues Half-Marathon on January 7th!

As you know (if you’ve been reading my blog) I had a bad case of the shin splints a few weeks back and that set me back quite a bit… then I finally cleared those up fairly well and did that 8K last week on Thanksgiving which went FABULOUS!! I finished in 51:37 and was extremely pleased with that!

So I have found the BEST running buddy for me.  We keep each other going at a really great pace, she’s not too fast for me, but she also isn’t slow and keeps going.  So, Meet Caroline!

Caroline is on the right and that’s sweet Chelsey on the left.  We worked camp together this summer and I got so close to these beautiful women!  Chelsey unfortunately is in Lucedale teaching and we don’t get to see her much, but Caroline is the Starkville High Track coach, so she’s in town with me!  She has been the greatest motivation for my running and she says the same about me.  We just are right there at each others pace.  It is so nice because my previous running friends, although SUPER GREAT, were sometimes way too fast for me and I always felt bad.

So back to training… we’ve been running together for a few weeks now and it has been going SO GREAT!  I have to stretch a lot and after every run I put on some compression sleeves and ice my legs to help with the recovery.  It has been going so well and today we did FIVE miles! I’m so excited to be back on the running track.  I want to go ahead and set my goal for the Half-Marathon….  TWO AND… wait for it… wait for it… (any How I met your Mother fans out there? ha) A HALF HOURS!

So there, the time is out there… It’s what I’m trying to live up too, so everyone… KEEP ME ACCOUNTABLE!  I’m looking forward to the next few weeks in training and I’ll try to update you guys again in a week or two!

DIY Projects!

I’ve been working on a few projects recently.  First, I have a TON of necklaces and earrings in this cute box I got from being in my cousin’s wedding.. you know the problem? Getting tangled and not really caring to wear any jewelry because you have to go look through the mess… yeah, that’s where I was a few months ago.  So I’ve seen things like this before, so I decided to create my own!  I got a piece of wood from Hobby Lobby and four door knobs {50% OFF!}.  I got some interesting ones that I loved!  I painted the board brown and then had my boyfriend screw in the knobs.  Unfortunately, during the time of actually making it, was when my camera was being retarded, so I didn’t get a step by step of the process, but I have some finished product pics!

Also… I’ve been wanting to decorate a wreath and this is a wreath that was definitely made on a college budget!   First, we were the crazy people on Thanksgiving Day that went to Michaels for their Black Friday Sales!  I got a ton of decor items for my apartment for SUPER cheap!  So I had this thing on pinterest I was wanting to make (you can read about that here) and so the items I bought that day were mainly to make that, but I definitely had some left over, so I used the leftovers to decorate my wreath to hang outside my front door.  I haven’t hung yet (oh, I tried… a lot! but I just couldn’t make it work) so I’m waiting on the boyfriend to come over to do it!

On a last little note, I’m sitting here… (excited about my new projects I got done today!) and eating a bowl of oatmeal… Is there anyone else out there who likes their oatmeal to be more like cereal? I know, it’s weird… I put some oatmeal in a bowl, add more milk than needed, microwave for 1 minute, add a little cinnamon and sugar… and let it stay a little soupy. haha Just wanted to share my favorite way to eat oatmeal since I’m eating it right now!  Is there a certain way you like to eat oatmeal?  And do you think I’m a little strange for eating mine this way? (It’s OK if you do!)
