Thin Mints + Mercedes + Conscious Box

Good Morning!  Happy Friday to y’all!  I’m typing this post while munching on some Thin Mints that I just came across in my freezer.  I love it when I’m craving something sweet and I find a surprise!  These Thin Mints are hitting the spot.  This week has been rough on the health front – I’ve been craving so much chocolate and I have NOT been in the mood to run, which is not going so well for my marathon training.  By the way, I guess I haven’t mentioned this yet, but I officially signed up for my first marathon.  I’m so nervous!!  I decided to do the Mercedes Marathon over the Mississippi Blues Marathon because the Mercedes will give me more time to train than the Blues at this point.  I’m excited about the race, but please pray for an injury free or at least injury limited training & race!

Another thing I prefer about the Mercedes Marathon is who it benefits.  I don’t even really know if the Mississippi Blues Marathon proceeds benefit a good cause, but the Mercedes Marathon benefits the Bell Center Children.   Please take the time to read this beautiful story about how the race got started.  I’m so excited to be a part of this race and knowing that my money is going towards a wonderful cause gives me peace of mind.  If something does happen during training and for whatever reason, I can’t race, then my money is still being useful.

To sum all of that up, I’ve been eating terribly this week with no motivation to train and that probably will not end well, so I need to kick my butt into gear over the next few days.

Have y’all heard about Conscious Box?

Conscious Box (<— Affiliate Link!) is a subscription box, but I love that it comes filled with healthy, non-GMO items.  You can select between a Classic, Vegan, or Gluten Free box.  The items vary from food to beauty products to pet friendly items.  You never know what you’re going to get!

In this box I got a wide variety of items – everything from fitness to beauty to dog treats to food!  I haven’t tried the shampoos and lotions yet, but I have a feeling they’ll make the perfect travel companion.  I used the Kool ‘N Fit on a run one day and I noticed that I didn’t have any joint pain, it could have been a fluke, I haven’t been able to use it enough to tell, but if it becomes my favorite fitness product, you’ll find out!  I really enjoyed the side of pasta and the protein mix.  Unfortunately my pasta recipe didn’t turn out as well as I wanted.

I was grounding up my Morning Star “meat” in the skillet and it was smelling good y’all.  I was getting really excited about the lunch I was going to get at work this particular day.  Then I go to pour the tomato & basil sauce into the pan to finish cooking, right after I douse my perfectly good “meat” with the sauce, I notice that there are pops of mold along the can lid.  It didn’t look like there was mold in the actual sauce and I was so excited about this meal that I almost chose to forget that I even saw the mold and believe that by cooking the sauce, the germs would all be gone.  Whether or not that’s true, I’m not really sure, but I couldn’t really get past it.  Sadly, I threw out my “meat” sauce and went with Italian dressing.  It didn’t turn out as good as it probably would have, but the pasta was delicious and super easy to make.  It made the perfect portion size for one person too!

Another item I was excited to try was the protein powder.  It’s vegan and they sent me the milk chocolate flavor – it’s as if they researched me first (they probably didn’t, but it felt that way.)  I made a nice little smoothie, but I didn’t have any good veggies to throw in, so I opted for some frozen veggies I had on hand.  Not my brightest idea, I tell ya!

The smoothie turned out good, but next time I’d go with the typical spinach to add that veggie boost.

Not pictured was a can of Zevia, but that’s another story for another day!  I already drank it when I was working on these pictures.

The last item I want to point out from my Conscious box were the puppy treats.  Cappie LOVED these treats!  Loved them so much that he got sick on them haha.  I didn’t think about them being sweet, but I think he begged for too many after his first one that it gave him an upset stomach similar to when we eat too much candy.  Now we just give him one at a time as part of his dessert each day.  He jumps up to my hand to grab it from me!  I was so impressed with how much Cappie liked them because he tends to be high maintenance and picky.

I had previously gotten a Conscious Box a few years back, but they’ve greatly improved since then.  I was extremely pleased with this month’s box and I look forward to using them in the future.  They also make great gifts in my opinion.  You don’t have to choose the Vegan one like me, you can choose the one that best fits your preferences.

**I was provided this particular conscious box free of charge in exchange for my honest review, all opinions are my own.  Affiliate links are within the post, as always, I appreciate your support!**

  • Have you tried Conscious Box before?
  • What is the one item from my box you would have enjoyed getting?
  • Do you ever have a cooking mishap like I did?

The good, the bad, & the ugly

  • The Good

Nick’s dad came out of surgery and is doing great!  The nurses & doctors think he’ll make a pretty quick recovery.  His mitral valve had already begun to repair itself so they didn’t have to do anything to it when they went in.

Nick’s on his way home right now as I type this post out.  I’m excited about seeing him this weekend, but even more excited that his brother is able to head back home to Florida to be with Kathryn since she’s about to have their baby!  I know it’s been an exhausting trip for him to be here these past 2 weeks helping out with his dad.

I took 3 practice tests for the Series 63 test that I have today at 3:30pm and passed 2 of them.

I’m so excited about a Mississippi Women Blogger’s leadership team meeting tomorrow morning and getting to meet some new bloggers plus grow our blogging platform in Mississippi!

I just found out some exciting news about work, I can’t share anything yet… but it’s definitely good!

I’m running again!

  • The Bad

My phone has been dead all week and will probably continue to be  through most of next week.

You remember that really awesome road trip I talked about – driving all the way to MA for Meg’s wedding?  That didn’t happen.  Due to Nick’s dad being in ICU all last week and then the surgery this week, we didn’t feel comfortable being that far away over the weekend, so we decided not to go.  I cried so many tears over this because I was so excited about seeing Meg & meeting Amanda!  I was also excited about seeing my best friend Lacy.  You have to do what’s right though and I’m thankful we had this time with Nick’s family during a really difficult situation.

I have my Series 63 test today and although I passed 2/3 of the practice tests I’ve taken so far, I haven’t been able to study as much as I planned too because of everything going on.  Let’s hope I just pass!

I want a lot of new pricey items right now without a budget that can provide it.  I want a new laptop so I can blog out of town easier and travel lighter to coffee shops when I want to get out of the house.  I want a gps watch to run with and I think I’ve determined that if I can make it through half of my marathon training (8 weeks), then I’ll break down and buy one for myself because it’ll come in handy for those longer runs.  I want a new wardrobe because my goodness…. I’m re-wearing things like they’re going out of style… and well, they are.

  • The Ugly

This blog.  I updated WordPress and it screwed everything up.  I was able to respond to comments for all of 2 seconds, now that’s jacked up again.  My navigation bar has shifted to the left and I have no clue how to fix it.  I don’t know what to do…. I probably need a different design & theme, I’m contemplating the switch back to blogger because this is way more of a headache than it’s worth – then I can wait until I actually have money to spend on a decent WordPress designer who can handle all this crap for me without me having to bother my dad every .5 seconds!  Also, because I have no phone, I have no pictures… that’s like rule #1 in blogging – always have pictures.

This cereal I’m eating…

My room.  With everything going on, I haven’t had time to clean it.  I have 2 loads of laundry that are in a heaping pile.  They get transferred from my bed to my t-shirt bin every day and night so I can find something to wear.  I have mail piled up on my desk and I really need to sweep up all the dog hair Cappie has left behind.

My marathon training.  That’s right, I’m training for my very first marathon!  I want to do a marathon and I keep coming up with excuses not too… well it’s time y’all!!  I need to do some research on proper fueling and training when I get up in my mileage, but this has been the first week and I’m fairly certain I look pretty darn ugly when I run right now.  I haven’t been a heavy runner since my Disney Wine & Dine Half-Marathon because that race burnt me out due to the pain I experienced on that race.

What I’ve Learned from HIMYM

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a looooooooooong time now… why it’s taken me this long, I have NO idea.  I’m a huge How I Met Your Mother Fan.  I may not have been the biggest fan of the ending, but I’ve learned to accept it for what it is and move on.  I do know that How I Met Your Mother has gotten me through a lot!  It’s been my go-to show for various occasions, whether I’m happy, sad, mad, cleaning, or just want a good laugh!  There is no doubt that I’ve learned a thing or two from the show over the past 9 years, there’s also no way I could have fit it all into one post, so forgive me if I left something off:

  • When something bad, sad, or unfortunate happens…. Just be AWESOME instead.

Barney taught me from the very beginning the importance of being awesome!  Ever since that first lesson, I’ve strived to be nothing less!  When I get sick?  I just stop being sick and be awesome instead.  When I get sad?  I just stop being sad and be awesome instead.  The moral of the story is whenever something less than awesome happens, you just stop whatever that is… and be awesome instead!

  • Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.

Luckily, I haven’t had to learn this lesson from experience – I don’t live in the city that never sleeps and I go to bars that are closed by 1 a.m., so that might be why.  I would like to think though that if I had the opportunity to do something after 2 a.m. that I’d be smart enough to listen to these words of caution though, especially after what happened to Ted.

  • Accept the Challenges in Life

How boring would life be if we didn’t accept the challenges?  I’m a lot more willing to accept a challenge and a risk thanks to How I Met Your Mother.  “You can’t eat that entire jar of peanut butter in one setting,” they say.  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.  “Being a vegetarian is just not healthy,” they say.  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.  “You can’t take a 4 day road trip, across 16 states, while visiting 6 friends and attending a wedding,” they say.  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

20 Life Lessons We Learned From

  • The best way to solve problems within your group = INTERVENTION

An intervention is a great way to get your point across without getting a lot of blood on your hands.  There isn’t an individual who has to be the bearer of bad news, it’s a joint effort that gets the entire point across without causing a strain within the relationship.  When your friend is dating a horrible person – INTERVENTION.  When your friend will not shut up in that awful accent they picked up while overseas for the summer – INTERVENTION.  When your friend thinks having a tan is more important than looking like an oompa loompa – INTERVENTION.

  • High Fives never go out of style

When you do something awesome, when your friend does something awesome, when you see a dog on a skateboard, when your friends has the “perfect week”, when you make a good joke aimed at your friend…. all reasons for a high five and let me tell you, that high five will never go out of style.  No one is available (or wants) to high five you?  No problem.  SELF-FIVE!

  • There are pros & cons to every stage in life, you have to decide how you deal with it

If How I Met Your Mother taught me anything, it was this!  Each member of the gang went through various stages of life throughout their 9 years together – being single, bad dates, engagements, people being left at the alter, krav maga beat downs, breakups, marriages, running a bar, crazy girlfriends and world wide moves.  It may not have been easy at times, but they all decided how they should deal with each situation and ultimately what they would learn from each situation.  How I Met Your Mother was one big lesson for Ted, one girl after the other!  I hope I can accept each stage in life for what it is and learn the most I can from it!

Go out and have a great day, watch your favorite How I Met Your Mother episode and dance like nobody’s watching!

  • What did you learn from 9 seasons of How I Met Your Mother?
  • Who was your favorite character and why?
