Linking up for Top 5 Tuesday!

Just Peachy
Today, January Favorites!

*Check out Rachel @ Just Peachy for a fabulous giveaway she is having for EmiJay hair bands!*

1. Disney World

Obviously, since I just got here a few weeks ago, I’m loving me some Disney World.  This has already been such a fantastic experience, I feel like I’m on vaca everyday!

2. Mississippi Blues Half-Marathon

I think this speaks the heart of Mississippi and a true southerner! haha  This was my first half-marathon and it was one of the best things I’ve done for myself, I’m actually signing up for the Disney Princess 1/2 in February!

3. Catfish Alley

If you have read The Help, which is another book based in Mississippi and LOVED it, then you have also got to read Catfish Alley.  I’m somewhat embarrased that the South was so cruel to the African American culture back in the day, but also proud to have writers who feel the importance of bringing that to light.  It breaks my heart reading how African Americans were treated back then, but it also gives me a lot of great perspective!

4. New Balance 626

I just got these shoes this month, I needed some every day shoes since I’d be doing a lot of walking at Disney World.  I wasn’t the biggest fan at first, but like always, Nick convinced me to get them and like always, he was right that I would eventually LOVE them… how he does it? I honestly don’t have a clue, it’s rather annoying though!

5. Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Lotion

Even though I would love to have a fab tan and even though I’m in Florida where it literally is warm enough to lay out in the middle of January, I’m not a fan of skin cancer and I would not be able to forgive myself later if I got skin cancer and could have prevented it so easily.  So instead of laying out, I use this stuff, it feels great and it looks great and I love it!!

Swap it Out!

I don’t get on Pinterest as much as I would like these days, I’m just consumed with work, playing at the Disney World Parks, trying to touch base with family and friends back home and spending time with my lovely roomies as much as possible when we finally get a day off!  I’m so excited to have Sunday and Monday off, so I’m using these days to catch up on things, I will definitely be making a trip to the parks, but I started taking a gander around Pinterest and found something interesting I wanted to blog about!  You may have already seen it, there is a website for 89 Simple Swaps That Could Change Your Life.  I’m all about small changes for a better life!

{Example: Last summer, I chose to ONLY take the stairs at work when I was coordinating a Camp, my office was on the 3rd floor, my dorm room was on the 3rd floor, and certain activities for the camp required stairs as well, that was the BEST decision I’ve made and now I never take the elevator because the stairs is so simple and such a great work out and let’s be honest, it’s usually faster than an elevator!}

So I thought it would be fun to go through a few the 89 Ways and touch points on the simpler ones that YOU can start doing today and I will start doing them as well!
(Just had an idea for a link-up with this, not sure if I’m advanced enough as a blogger yet for my own link-up, you can comment on this note if you like and let me know what you think!)

1. Swap crunches for PLANKS
Don’t we all try to spend needless hours doing hundreds of crunches?  Ok, so maybe not, but still, there is a more effective way to get rock’n abs, try a plank! I read in Fitness Magazine that doing a plank for ONE MINUTE a day will give you amazing results, they challenged their readers to do that every day for a year, I may have to try that out now!

2. Swap Static stretching for DYNAMIC stretching
I’m not sure if everyone knew this (believe me, I didn’t for a while!) but it is so much better for your muscles if you stretch after a small warm-up than to stretch them out cold.  So stop doing that IMMEDIATELY!  Do a few jumping jacks or some lunges before starting your stretches and your muscles will thank you later, I promise!

3. Swap sitting at your desk for STANDING
That’s not always easy when you have a desk job, I understand, but there are a few ways to make this happen, You could make your computer taller with books or a higher surface and stand and type, or choose to at least take a 2-3 minute walk every 15-30 minutes just to get out of that dang cubicle!

4. Swap your office chair for an EXERCISE BALL
Yes, people will look and stare… but if standing just isn’t the best option for you (read above!) then this is a good core workout and strengthens your balance.  You may even convert the entire office and you’ll feel better about yourself at the end of the day!

5. Swap a spot up close for parking FURTHER away
The extra steps you get each time you choose to park in the back of the parking lot will be a God send later on!  Think about how many extra calories you can burn and on top of that how much gas you can save by not driving a
round and around trying to catch a front seat spot!

6. Swap Muscle Medicine for CHERRY JUICE
Now, I’m not the biggest fan of cherries, but this may be worth a try.  I’m also not the biggest fan of pain meds, I rarely ever take them, not because I’m against it, but just because I never feel that the pain I ever have is too much to bare for the most part, but I do get extremely sore from time to time.  Instead of popping a few asprin or tylenol, try drinking some Cherry Juice for that soreness, I’m going to try it too!

Those are some great ones under Fitness, there are more under Health and Happiness too that I may blog about later!

So do I have interest in maybe doing a link-up, where I post one of these small swaps a week in advance, then at the end of the week, we link-up our success after trying it for the week, and it won’t be just fitness, I’ll pull stuff from the Health and Happiness sections as well!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
Happy Sunday friends!

Better a day late, than never…

I wanted to link up with Lori at A Crazy Walk on the Safe Side yesterday for her new GO FOR THE GOAL link-up!  I’m a huge fan of setting goals and I think it’s so great that she has created a link-up to help you keep accountable for them.  Since I didn’t get a chance to do it yesterday, i still wanted to join in on the fun and accountability, so excuse me as I take Saturday to link up for a Friday Link-Up!

I didn’t actually set aside any specific new years resolutions, but my overall goal was to stay healthy.  I ran my first Half Marathon, which you can read about here, at the beginning of the month and I just want to keep that momentum going.

{1} Continue to Work Out and Stay Healthy: I am happy to report that I have overall been great at this.  I didn’t do so well the week after my race because man, I needed a break!  While I’ve been working at Disney though, I haven’t been eating many sweets or unhealthy foods, I pack my lunch for work everyday, and I’ve been sore almost every single day which makes me feel like I’m definitely accomplishing something!

{2} Win this contest: So I may have mentioned at some point that me and my boyfriend are having a competition when he comes to visit over Spring Break.  I want to go ahead and get this out there so I can have some accountability.  We are using the Air Force PT standards for the competition.  As a female, I need to have the following under my belt in order to get 100%…. 1.5 mile run in 10:23, 47 push ups, 54 sit ups, and a 31.5″ waist… Needless to say, I’m not there yet, but every Friday I plan on linking up so I can post my stats for the week!

{3} See everything I can while at Disney World: While I haven’t actually done this yet, I have had some great experiences already and I have some new favorites from the wonderful world of Walt, so that is IN PROGRESS!

I hate that I had to link-up a day late, I promise next week, I’ll be on time! Happy Saturday all! 🙂
