Favorite Things #6

Good morning!!  I hope you all are having a great week so far – it’s Wednesday, so we’re half way to the weekend.  Hang in there if things are a little tough this week, you’ll get through it!  I have some fun favorites to share with you today.  I plan on doing  a quarterly recap of my 2015 goals at the end of the month to help me stay on track and if I’m not reaching any of them, at least I know I’ve been on top of my Favorite Things posts!  Success.

I don’t usually post serious stuff on the blog because I want to keep things light and fun around here, at least that’s been my overall goal since converting to No Bologna, so if my post on Monday was uncomfortable (McAlister’s, we’re breaking up!), I’m not going to apologize for it because it was something I truly believe in, but I will promise not to get that serious for at least another few months!  Now let’s roll right into our Favorite Things, shall we….

I’m about to toot my own horn for a split second because it’s just so dang exciting for little ole’ bloggers like myself.

  • Featured in Mississippi Magazine

IMG_6336

I WAS FEATURED IN MISSISSIPPI MAGAZINE!!!!!!! Okay, I’m calm now. It was truly an honor and a blessing to be featured by one of the most prestigious magazines in Mississippi.  They wrote a beautiful article about the reasoning behind my blog and why I chose to become a vegetarian as well as tips I would provide someone who may be interested in a vegetarian lifestyle.  I definitely feel like it was a huge milestone for me and the blog.  I’m hoping to increase my local traffic – so this was surely a big step in the right direction.

One way to increase local traffic is to post directly on your personal face book page.  I’ve never been good about that because it makes me nervous.  I can’t really explain it, but I’ve always steered clear of my personal page and when I accidentally sent some blog posts to my personal page while I was vacationing in Jamaica, I may have definitely freaked out at first.  I realized though, that if I’m wanting to grow, then it’s logically the next step – so if you’re here from face book, WELCOME! 🙂

  • Raw Apple Crisp

IMG_6346

I’ve been eating a lot of this raw apple crisp lately.  It was one of my favorite go-to recipes when I did the Health Starts Here diet, but for some reason I didn’t even consider making it during the Engine 2 diet.  As I was meal prepping last week, I came across the recipe again and made a batch.  I love the crispness and freshness of this delightful treat!

  • Chili… lots and lots of chili!!!!

IMG_6350

I have been on a chili frenzy lately!  Not so unfortunately, the weather is finally starting to warm up, but that hasn’t stopped me from making chili.  I think the biggest reason for that is because it’s easy to make and makes excellent leftovers for lunch at work.  Nick and I made this batch of chili last Saturday night and it turned out delicious!  It was filled with vegetables and we made a vegan sour cream to go on top!

IMG_6354

It was so simple to make this sourcream – cashews, water, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar!  I’ll come up with a more solid recipe soon and share that with y’all.  This is a delicious sour cream alternative and it doesn’t have the unhealthy aspects to it.  Win in my book!

  • Weekends in Starkville, of course!

This past weekend was filled with lots of quality time with Nick and my sisters.  It was just what I needed!  Friday we hung out with my sisters and split a free pizza from Papa Johns – it was a pineapple, jalapeno, and mushroom pizza.  Odd combination, but it turned out delicious. Nick and I spent a good chunk of time at Starbucks planning an upcoming trip to Orlando.  My work has a conference for people in my position and this year it’s being held in Orlando, so I’m going down for the conference and while I’m at the conference, Nick can hang out with his brother and sister-in-law at Disney.  I’ll be done with my conference that Thursday, which also happens to be my birthday, so I’ll meet up with them afterwards and celebrate my 26th birthday at Disney!  We selected all of our fast passes and made 2 meal reservations, so we’re really excited!  The rest of the weekend didn’t have much going on, but it was enjoyable nonetheless!

  • This pleather skirt

IMG_6274

I would have never expected to like this skirt, but I loved it when I tried it on, so I bought it!  I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but I’m excited to see what all I can do with it.  I think it’ll be long enough for work, so I can pair it with some nice black heels and a button up shirt.  It’ll also be a fun “outing” skirt!  You’ll probably see this around the blog a lot this summer.  In this same shopping trip, I bought somewhere near 1,000 (ok, maybe just 4) solid color tee’s to wear this summer too.  Can you tell I’m ready for warmer weather and lighter clothes?!

  • What are you looking forward to most this summer?
  • What’s your favorite meal currently?
  • How are you keeping up with your 2015 resolutions/goals?

Zooey look-alike!

HELLO!!!!!

IMG_6267

I am back from sunny Jamaica and I know I have a thousand and one things to update y’all on!  First I need to gather my thoughts and de-clutter my life… when you get back from a whole week of vacation, doesn’t it feel like everything else around you needs picked up and put back in place?  That’s sort of how I feel.  I have some updates I need to make for Mississippi Women Bloggers, I need to schedule out some of my own posts for this week, and I don’t even want to embarrass myself by talking about the status of my room at the present moment.  So as I’m trying to gather my thoughts on everything I need to take care of around me, my mind is still basking in the sun.  Oh, how I miss Jamaica and quality time with my cousin.  I must say, it was absolutely perfect!  There are probably a few things I’d change about the trip – the choppy water that we experienced the entire time and the amount of water I drank.  I seriously didn’t get enough water, I tried… I really really tried, but I just didn’t do it.  I’m fairly certain I got sick on Friday while we were heading to the airport due to dehydration.  All is well now, but I would change those few things.  The rest of the trip – absolutely wonderful!  I’ll be recapping that in phases over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

I BOUGHT A FLORAL DRESS.

I would never have pegged myself as a floral dress wearing girl, but I borrowed my cousin’s one night (pictured above) and I fell in love with it.  Floral dresses now remind me of Jamaica and sun and flattering complements.  One night, we were out dancing and I was wearing this floral dress.  My hair was up in a bun and I was wearing my glasses.  Also, remember that I do have dark brown hair.  When I finished the wobble, which I must add… I’m exceptionally good at, a guy leaned over to me and asked if I had ever been told that I looked like Zooey Deschanel?  My response: a lot of laughter and a lot of thank you’s because that girl is cute, spunky, and sexy!

zoey-deschanel

I feel like the girly floral dress assisted with the reference, so when I saw one at Forever 21 for only $13 (WHAT!?) I couldn’t resist.  I can’t wait for it to warm up in Mississippi so I can wear it.  I also think I was a shopping frenzy when I returned because I wanted to buy all things warmer weather – I bought a pleather skirt, again… another purchase I wouldn’t have expected from myself.  I did buy 4 basic t’s to wear to work this summer, so at least I’m not completely losing my marbles!

Anywho – I had a fantastic time, I’m so thankful for the opportunity, but I  am also glad to be back.  I hope you weren’t completely neglected last week, I did have a few things published on the blog.  I hope you all enjoyed Kitty’s Smoothie Prep post as much as I did!  Can’t wait to share all about my trip, especially my adventure to Dunn’s River Falls!! My cousin and I both agree that it was our favorite part, hands down!  She’s going to send me a flash drive of all the pics she took, then I’ll send it back with mine included so we can share.  She had the water proof camera, so I’ll have to wait on Dunn’s River Falls when I receive the pictures from her.

Now tell me what’s been going on this past week…

  • Anything on your blog you want me to check out?
  • How was the weather?  Apparently I missed some nasty stuff last week in Mississippi (Thank goodness!)
  • What celebrity have you been compared to?
  • Have you found yourself purchasing clothes that you wouldn’t have expected?  Tell me the craziest clothing item you’ve purchased for yourself!

Not your Typical Fashion Blogger: Sponsored by eShakti

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

I hope you, your family, & friends all survived the holiday season and hopefully you’re not looking too regretfully at an extra 5-10 pounds!  I definitely had my splurges this holiday season, but we’re back on track and ready to take on this first full week of 2015.

I mentioned in my New Year’s Resolutions that I wanted to do one fashion post per month and I noted that it’ll be difficult for me to do that, but lo and behold, I’m already keeping resolutions on the 4th day of the New Year!  I bring you the first fashion post of 2015 at NBB (No Bologna Blog) and it’s brought by not your typical fashion blogger.  I’m definitely the farthest thing from a fashion blogger – a normal day for me involves t-shirts & blue jeans, dressing up is putting on mascara & some lip gloss, and I get my hair & nails done at most twice a year (on a good year!)  I wanted to make the resolution to do one fashion post per month to push me outside of my comfort zone.

I’m excited to branch out with my wardrobe this year to bring you one fashion post per month.  This month’s fashion post came pretty easy thanks to eShakti!  They contacted me in December about trying out their service and I was most definitely excited about it!  I’ve seen a lot of bloggers talk about eShakti and was certainly curious about the company, but had yet to take the plunge into their personalized clothing.  After experiencing first-hand the ordering process and seeing what all can be personally tailored to me, I’m excited about the endless possibilities to use them for future events I attend.  In my opinion, they have the perfect balance of style and comfort.  If you know me, then you know comfort is key!

HOW TO ORDER

Ordering was very simple and I loved the personalization I got with it.  First, you select your dress, of course!

eshakti review 1

Then you customize based on your size.  They give you a chart that provides measurements so you can get the perfect fit on the first time.  I chose a standard size, but if you’re extra nervous about ordering online as I sometimes am, then you can choose a custom size as well.

eshakti review 2

Once you select your size, you personalize your dress even more and this was where all the excitement was in my opinion!  I chose my height which gave me peace in knowing that whatever dress length I chose would be true to my size.  I went with an above the knee length.  You are then able to choose your sleeve length.  I went with what was in the picture, sleeveless.  Although it’s January, I live in Mississippi, so if I decide to wear the dress when it’s cold, I can simply cover up with a jacket until I’m safe inside somewhere, but this allows me to comfortably wear it this summer for work without fear of sweat stains (TMI?  Sorry, that’s just the truth down south!)

THE BIG REVEAL: WHAT DID I GET?

Fashion blogging is tough… it’s vulnerable in my opinion.  Maybe after 12 shoots outside, I won’t be so nervous at the end of the year.  It was completely awkward when cars would pass by, but I nailed a few good shots thanks to my little sister!  If you have any fashion blogging tips, mainly in the area of not getting shy when people see you snapping funny pictures in public – I could use all the help I can get!  Thanks in advance.

So I’m sure you’re wondering what I chose for my dress?  Don’t laugh too hard at my mini-photo shoot session – this is vulnerability at it’s finest!

Lessons learned: I’m no fashion blogger, but getting cute dresses are still fun and eShakti will fit right the first time!

Another thing I realized about this cute eShakti dress are bra strap holders!  I’ll admit, I’ve never had a fancy enough dress that secured those pesky bra straps!  Brilliant, I tell ya!

Now that you’re convinced eShakti is the perfect place to find your next party dress for that work event or engagement party, you may want to head over before February 5th, 2015 because I have a fabulous coupon code that will get you 10% off until then!  The code must be entered in the “promotional code” box at checkout and it is not case sensitive.  It can be used any number of times between now and 2/5/15.  This discount code is not applicable on clearance/sale, gift cards, and overstocks.  It’s also not applicable to previous purchases.

Use code NOBOLOGNABLOG for 10% off your purchase now thru Feb. 5th!

Here are some of the bloopers from our photo session, for those who want to continue laughing!

The “Why am I doing this?” face.

IMG_1320

Here, I’ll pretend to walk and let’s see if we can get a good picture.  Answer: We can’t.

IMG_1325

Let me talk and move my hands real fast to disguise the fact that we’re taking pictures while all these cars drive by.

IMG_1334

More cars… oh no, I’m nervous!  Must clasp hands together!

I must say, my feelings toward eShakti and my feelings toward taking pictures in public are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum – eShakti I give a 10, awkward pictures in my front yard while cars drive by (filled with people I possible know) would be a measly -10!

Ok, you crazy kids!  Stop laughing and go order your own eShakti dress with the 10% discount code: NOBOLOGNABLOG and enjoy your personalized new wardrobe!  Happy Monday from me (& eShakti) to you!
