DIY: “Date Night” or “Activity” Jar

I know you’ve all seen these posts or pins about the date night jar or an activity jar.  I decided that Nick and I needed one because honestly, our nights are usually spent watching re-runs of How I Met Your Mother (is that a surprise? I’m sure it’s not because I talk about it all the time!).  So I got in a crafty mood last weekend and got to work!

What you need:
Items I already had: Glue gun, glue sticks, the vase, twine, and scissors
I chose to save money on buying an actual mason jar and instead went with a vase I already had stored in the cabinet not being used.
Items I bought: Blue Ribbon ($0.24), Black Lace ($0.99), Rubber Cement ($1.88), Wood Sticks ($2.47), Pearl flower accessories ($1.27), and the Scrapbook Paper ($5.00) TOTAL OF $11.85
I have a lot of leftover material though for future crafts or to add more date sticks to the jar.

First, I hot glued the lace to the ribbon for the decoration on the vase

This was a beast to hot glue on the vase, I finally got it somewhat straight

I then hot glued the twine in the center of the blue ribbon and added these adorable pearl flower accessories.

Then I used the rubber cement to glue the sticks to the back of the scrapbook paper and then cut them out.   This was time consuming.  I had to add a little more cement or hot glue to the ends of the sticks, but it all worked out.

Then I used a sharpie to write on the sticks the dates I thought of
Honestly, I researched some ideas… I’m pretty boring!

And put all the sticks in the jar.  One thing I didn’t really think through was that a lot of the backs of the sticks will show through the vase, so it’s not as colorful as I’d like, but I’m very pleased with it.

Hope y’all are having a great Sunday!
If you had a date jar, what dates would you and your significant other put in it?
I could use a few more ideas!
Also, I’m planning on doing my VERY FIRST Vlog! It’s going to be a general “get to know me” vlog, I love having a face with a name with a voice, so I’ll just be talking about generic things about myself, but if you have ANY questions about me, my life, my time at Disney, running, Kawasaki Disease (bet you’re curiosity is getting at you now! haha), my job, my family, my pets, WHATEVER, then feel free to ask me from NOW until NOV. 12. I’ll be filming the vlog Monday night, so send me some questions friends!
It will post TUESDAY, NOV. 13!

DIY Projects!

I’ve been working on a few projects recently.  First, I have a TON of necklaces and earrings in this cute box I got from being in my cousin’s wedding.. you know the problem? Getting tangled and not really caring to wear any jewelry because you have to go look through the mess… yeah, that’s where I was a few months ago.  So I’ve seen things like this before, so I decided to create my own!  I got a piece of wood from Hobby Lobby and four door knobs {50% OFF!}.  I got some interesting ones that I loved!  I painted the board brown and then had my boyfriend screw in the knobs.  Unfortunately, during the time of actually making it, was when my camera was being retarded, so I didn’t get a step by step of the process, but I have some finished product pics!

Also… I’ve been wanting to decorate a wreath and this is a wreath that was definitely made on a college budget!   First, we were the crazy people on Thanksgiving Day that went to Michaels for their Black Friday Sales!  I got a ton of decor items for my apartment for SUPER cheap!  So I had this thing on pinterest I was wanting to make (you can read about that here) and so the items I bought that day were mainly to make that, but I definitely had some left over, so I used the leftovers to decorate my wreath to hang outside my front door.  I haven’t hung yet (oh, I tried… a lot! but I just couldn’t make it work) so I’m waiting on the boyfriend to come over to do it!

On a last little note, I’m sitting here… (excited about my new projects I got done today!) and eating a bowl of oatmeal… Is there anyone else out there who likes their oatmeal to be more like cereal? I know, it’s weird… I put some oatmeal in a bowl, add more milk than needed, microwave for 1 minute, add a little cinnamon and sugar… and let it stay a little soupy. haha Just wanted to share my favorite way to eat oatmeal since I’m eating it right now!  Is there a certain way you like to eat oatmeal?  And do you think I’m a little strange for eating mine this way? (It’s OK if you do!)
