KMU: A failed attempt!

I’m excited to share my failed attempt at Kitchen Mix Up this month.  Amanda and Meg changed it up a bit and gave us a “theme”.  The theme for the month of February was obvious… Valentine’s Day!  Sure, maybe Valentine’s Day has passed and these ideas may not work for you anymore, but you can definitely change these up!

You know those adorable “Eggs in a Basket” – seem simple enough right?  WRONG.  I assumed I could just cut out my basket and drop the egg in the middle.  I decided to make a heart with my basket for Valentine’s Day, but you can’t even tell that it’s suppose to be a heart!  Other ideas if you dare to try this little concoction: A 4-leaf clover for St. Patrick’s Day, A Micky Mouse head, or a Christmas Tree.
This girl on the other hand – she knows what the heck she is doing.  So if you’re actually interested in making this beauty work, check out her pin and blog!

I do have some other ideas for Valentine’s inspired treats since this one didn’t quite work out in my favor.  If an egg in a basket isn’t your speed (i.e. You lack talent just like I do) then try these simpler options for Valentine’s Day – Most people can bake cookies and make pancakes, just throw in some food coloring and you’re good to go!

These are vegan chocolate chip cookies and they are DELICIOUS! I threw in some pink food coloring and they were great for Valentine’s Day.  I dug into quite a few myself, but because these were homemade, the recipe made a lot so I took the rest to work.

These were just regular pancakes that I made.  I’m pretty sure I bought the shake & pour mix that is super easy.  You literally pour some water in the bottle, shake it up, and pour the pancake mix onto the griddle.  I added some pink food coloring though and voila!

Don’t forget, you can also use green food coloring for St. Patrick’s Day and Red/White/Blue for July 4th.  I love using food coloring in simple recipes because you can brighten up any dish!

All the pink colored food was how I celebrated Valentine’s Day last year and maybe this years epic failure was a sign that I should stick to what I know haha!  I’m kidding though – I think it’s great to step outside of your comfort zone to try something new, but I’m not sure “egg in a basket” will be worth a second try in my book.

We were JUST talking about these at work the other day! You would totally think you can just drop the egg in. At what point did you realize it wouldn’t work that way? Lol

We make these all the time–we call them “special eggs” though. Just make your “hole” bigger!
