8 Reasons to LOVE living in MS!

As I mentioned in my Blogging/Vlogging crushes post, I’ve gained a new crush: MamaKat!  She’s hilarious.  She does a “Writer’s Workshop” (She also does a vlogging workshop that I haven’t taken part in yet), where she lists 5 prompts and you can choose one to write about.  Since it’s quite clear that I absolutely LOVE the state I live in (I mean, have you seen my blog design?) then it only seemed fitting to choose the following prompt:

Mama’s Losin’ It

List 8 best reasons you love living in your state.

Whole Foods Market Jackson - Jackson, MS
8. We have no where to go but UP!
It’s no secret that Mississippi is viewed as one of the worst states in all of America.  Whether or not I agree with that statement (I DON’T!) doesn’t matter, but you should know that when you’re as low as we are… you have no where to go but up!  We are obese… well, I’ve seen so many changes lately to improve our health and wellness.  We have sidewalks being put in place left and right.  We’re finally getting a Whole Foods (hello healthy eating!).  We’re not worried about the economy failing and losing jobs because those jobs have already been lost… all we can do now is create more jobs and employ people. No where to go but UP y’all!

7. I feel safe.
I have dreamed of living in bigger cities and I still plan to one day, but one thing is for certain… I 99.9% of the time feel safe anywhere that I am.  Even in downtown Jackson.  Downtown Jackson is not ideal and we do have crime and murders, but for the most part… I feel a lot safer here than I bet I’ll feel anywhere else.  Don’t get me wrong though, I protect my safety… did you read that?  I don’t want you to be confused.  I protect my safety!  I lock my doors and I carry mace, so don’t be thinking you’ll skip on down to MS and catch me off guard and attack.  It won’t happen.

6. I’m a true southerner.
People dream of being from the South.  I don’t know if it’s the plantation style homes or the southern belle accents, but there is something magical about the South.  I wrote a post about living in the south, if you think you’re a southerner, you may want to check that post out just to make sure because us true southerners have standards… just sayin.

5. We have an attractive shape.
I actually love the way our state is shaped.  I have Mississippi shaped jewelry and a Mississippi shaped nail art and a Mississippi shaped cutting board.  I find it attractive!  I’d hate to be a state that is shaped like a square… it’d be so hard to personalize anything!  “Oh, I love your cutting board… it’s just a regular square, very nice”… “Um.. no, that’s suppose to be my state, Wyoming… duh”  Oops…

4. Everyone knows how to spell it… or they should.
M – I – crooked letter – crooked letter – I – crooked letter – crooked letter – I – hump back – hump back – I

3. It’s also widely known in the math department.
1 Mississippi… 2 Mississippi…. 3 Mississippi…. 4 Mississippi… Ready or not, here I come!  Oh, so we’re not playing hide and seek?  Sorry, I got distracted.

2. It is beautiful.
We have tons of trees and during the fall and spring months, it’s absolutely beautiful here.  We don’t have to go to a special place to find beauty, it’s just all around us.

1. We’re friendly!!!
Sure, there are the exceptions… and for those people, I just punch them (or in my mind I do – I would never actually), but when I go on a run… I wave and say hi to everyone I pass and I like that.  I say excuse me and please and thank you.  I say yes ma’am and no sir.  We genuinely care about others and when people are sick or in the hospital, we make the time to visit them or make them dinner (so much dinner that they don’t have to cook for weeks!)

I’m proud to call Mississippi my home.

If you’re from Mississippi or live in Mississippi?  What else is there to love about our wonderful state?
What do you love about the state you live in?!

As a fellow southerner, I have to say that your list rocks. So glad you’re getting a Whole Foods. You’ll love it.

Aw, I love this! I have family in Gulfport, Biloxi, and Hattiesburg, so I am also pretty fond of Mississippi! NOT a fan of the fire ants and the humidity, though!

I’m pretty sure I’ve actually never been to mississippi! So it’s great to learn a little bit about what the lifestyle is like. I think I would appreciate the warmer weather of anywhere down south!
