Who am I?

Good Morning!

How was your Friday night?  Mine started out with a really great WORKOUT when I got off work.  I originally planned on doing a Kickbox class, but I got off later than expected.  I’ve really enjoyed circuit workouts lately to help get me back to the gym!  They’re challenging and always different!  Today I warmed up with a 25 minute treadmill walk.  I did the walk before realizing that it was created by The Skinny Student who I actually met at Blog Elevated this past year!  We didn’t get to know each other very well, but she was so sweet and I enjoyed following her blog when I got home!

When I finished that, I had worked up a nice little sweat.  I went on to do another Peanut Butter Fingers circuit workout {NO surprise!}  This one was TOUGH though.  I was a little nervous going into it because she said it was a workout to “kick her butt and leave her dripping in sweat.”  Well if you have read even half a post from Julie, then you know this girl is fit!  I’m working my way there, so I figured it’d be a tough one.  I was entirely correct.

I only completed one set, even though it says to complete two.  I wasn’t exactly “dripping” in sweat, but I “dripped” sweat.  Which is a huge accomplishment for me because sometimes I don’t think I sweat enough – compared to others who workout anyways, then again… I shouldn’t be playing the comparison game!

There’s the proof.

I’m hoping I’ll be comfortable enough to create my own workouts soon so I won’t be using everyone else’s! haha Right now, it’s nice to have these resources though!

Yeah, I know it’s not much, but it’s a start.  While I was at the gym, my mom asked me if I wanted to get pizza with her and my dad.  Originally I said yes, but then I thought about it and realized that I didn’t make great decisions about my food throughout the week and I really wanted something healthy, so I changed my mind and made a smoothie.  WHO AM I??  Really, pizza is my favorite.

The smoothie turned out great though!  One of these days, I’m actually going to make a pin-able recipe for y’all w/ legit measurements.  After all, that’s what a good blogger does… *sigh*  Let’s cross our fingers for that very soon!

  • a cup or so of orange juice
  • 3 handfuls of frozen blueberries
  • 2 large handfuls of spinach
  • couple dashes of flax seed
  • 3 big scoops of honey vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1 big scoop of almond butter
  • 1 little scoop of cocoa powder
  • 1 little dash of milk for extra liquid

When I made the decision to skip out on pizza, my first thought really was… WHO AM I?  It got me to actually answer the question for myself… which could have been really scary and unpredictable!

There’s the person I am and then the person I want to become.  The person I am is constantly changing in order to find the person I want to become.  I want to become a person who cares more about my health and long-term living, than that large bag of Reese’s.  I want to become a person who chooses integrity and class over outbursts of anger.  I want to become a person who lives to be 100.  I want to become a better friend, family member, blogger, girlfriend, fitness guru, and healthy/vegetarian eating expert.

Surprisingly, I’m becoming the type of person who turns down pizza for a smoothie.  The smoothie is a lot better for me in the long run.  That doesn’t meant to not indulge from time to time, believe me, I did this past week.  That’s why I felt a smoothie was in my best interest.  I’m noticing small decisions I make that are helping me become the person I want to be.  I think the ideal person I want to be will continuously be evolving as well.  You don’t want to get to a stopping point, realize you’re where you wanted to be, but then make no further goals.  I want to constantly be learning, growing, and improving!

It was important for me to join a gym because I knew I wouldn’t take my fitness to the next level if I didn’t.  I need that motivation on a daily basis.  It was important for me to become a vegetarian in January because I knew the leap I wanted to make, but continuously provided excuses.  It was time to stop making excuses and just do it.  It was important for me to change my blog because I lost interest in my old one.  If I wanted to be a better blogger and potentially use blogging as supplemental income, I needed to stop waiting and finally make the change.

So the question: WHO AM I?

I’m usually the person failing at one thing or the other, but I’m also the person striving to succeed, striving to learn, striving to grow, and striving to become a better version of me than I was yesterday.

I hope to do that through this blog, through fitness, through healthy eating choices, through service, through love, through compassion and understanding.

I am not always the person I want to be.  I look back at a particular instance and I’m ashamed of the choices I made or the anger I let control me, but every day is a new day and I’m so thankful for the opportunity of forgiveness and a fresh start!

The questions are always optional, but especially today.  This is more for you to think through for yourself.  If you want to answer and share, I’d love to hear it!  If you’re not comfortable doing so, that’s alright too!

  • WHO ARE YOU?
  • ARE YOU WHO YOU WANT TO BE?
  • WHAT CHOICES ARE YOU MAKING TO BECOME A BETTER VERSION OF YOURSELF?

This morning I woke up to an excellent yoga class at my local gym (wish I could find an outdoor yoga class!) and then headed home to sip on coffee while I finish up this post.  Today I’ll be studying for my Series 6 test (bleh, investments!) and doing some yard work.  My sis is coming to town, so that’s always exciting!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Mini-Card Workout

Good Morning!

This week is being consumed with Series 6 studying.  I have 3 pretty slow days at work this week so I’m using that time to study.

Yesterday, I opted for McAlister’s for LUNCH (without realizing that I’d be eating that again today) and it hit the spot with a veggie spud & veggie club.

I love my clubs with some honey mustard!  McAlister’s has excellent honey mustard too!  I decided to eat at my desk (which I really need to break this habit) so I could watch my online videos and take notes for my Series 6.

Who else looks forward to Sweet Tea Day?  It’s one of my Top 5 Favorite Days of the Year!  It’s coming up VERY SOON!  July 24th!

After work, I started planning for my potential visit to see Meg in September and although it’ll be a super quick weekend, I think it’ll be a lot of fun and completely worth it!  I probably spent a good hour and a half mapping out my options!  I love planning!  I then made my trip to the grocery store for the week and stocked up on some fixing for smoothies & lunch items for the week.  After the grocery store, I went to workout.

I’m loving the workouts from Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers!  A lot of them are a little more challenging than I can do right now, but I hope to build my way up.  Sometimes she’s all “Hey, this took me 20 minutes” and I’m all “Hey, that’s impossible… took me an hour!”  But whatever, she’s super great and her workouts keep my boredom at bay!

My WORKOUT last night consisted of a 10 minute treadmill workout to warm-up, a Circuit workout, and then a 2 minute cool down on the treadmill.

My Killer Incline Walking Workout kept me at a speeds of 4 & 4.3, but the incline went anywhere from 2 to 12!!  I was sweaty when I finished up and moved on to my circuit.

I used a 5 pound weight just to get a feel for how this workout would go.  There were certain exercises that I could have used a heavier weight on so I’ll try that next time!  I’m really loving my local gym because it’s not too crowded during the times I go so I feel completely comfortable setting up my station and getting to work!

Using notecards cut in half has been my ideal way to remember what exercises I want to do!  I don’t have to keep it on my phone (Which was especially nice for this because I needed to use my phone as a 1 minute timer) and I don’t have to remember what my workout is, I can just bring it on this card.  If the card gets sweaty or gross – no big deal!  I strongly suggest finding quality workouts online and writing them down on a mini-card.  By finding different workouts online through Pinterest or other bloggers, I’m consistently motivated to stay on track with my workouts and using this card system helps me go through the workout quickly.  Another idea I’ve had is to keep my cards if they don’t get gross during the workout, so eventually I’ll be able to grab one and go!  Using a file card box, I can sort them by type of workouts or which muscles are worked.

This morning, BREAKFAST started out as 2 pieces of toast w/ peanut & jelly with a side of pineapple greek yogurt.  Eating the yogurt wasn’t very appealing at the time, so I opted for a smoothie!  I tossed in the pineapple greek yogurt with some spinach, blueberries, OJ, peanut butter, and flaxseed.  I drank that on my way to work this morning.

Today, my friend Lacy is coming town, so I’ll have lunch with her and then drop her off at the airport!  I’m looking forward to another HIIT class this evening – this will be my Tuesday ritual!

Check back tonight for my day at Disney re-cap from this past weekend!

Questions this morning:

  • What heart-rate monitor or workout watch do you suggest?  I need to start looking for a good one.
  • How do you keep from boredom during your workouts?

10 to 6 & Mississippi Fun Facts

rainbow

Good Morning!! This was a view from my walk yesterday!  I just love seeing rainbows!

I’m getting prepared for a weekend with a bunch of middle schoolers!  I’m chaperoning camp this weekend and I’m slightly nervous.  I haven’t worked with middle-school students in YEARS!   Last night we had our leaders meeting and although I’m unsure what to expect, I have a feeling it’s going to be FUN!  I won’t be blogging over the weekend because I’ll be off with some kiddo’s.

My WORKOUT this morning was awesome.  I used a circuit workout from Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers and it did the trick.  I was running behind getting to the gym, so I didn’t complete the whole 10 to 6  circuit, but I did a set of 10 and a set of 9.  I also did a 5 min. warmup and cooldown plus some stretching.  I was still a little sore from my HIIT workout on Tuesday.  Overall, I felt like I got a great workout in with this and look forward to doing it again with more time!

*Random Blogging Sidenote/Question: I originally used Julie’s 10 to 6 Workout picture that displayed the workout I did.  I cited it of course and directed you to her site, but I started worrying about using what she created and possibly getting credit for it from getting “pinned” or something…. Any experts on that form of copyright?  I took the picture down because I didn’t feel right about it when I didn’t ask her to use it, but just cited her post on it.  Honestly, she gets so many comments & e-mails, I’m not even sure she would see my e-mail – let alone quick enough for me to post this morning.  She’s a blogger I truly adore reading and respect, so I didn’t want to cause any waves if I was in the wrong.  I’d love some input on this!  What are the rules?  If we re-direct to their site, is it okay?  Is it only okay if they respond saying you can use it?*

If y’all don’t follow Julie, you should!! She’s by far my favorite blogger.  I check her blog 2-3 times a day for new posts and she’s definitely been a blogger role-model to me lately.

For BREAKFAST I enjoyed another egg, veggie bacon, & english muffin sandwich.  It was so good yesterday that I wanted another on.  I thought I’d share the actual “recipe” (which, it’s probably improper to call it that because it’s so easy peasy!)

egg-bacon-mcmuffin

Egg & Bacon English Muffin

  • 1 whole wheat english muffin (toasted)
  • 1 boiled egg (sliced)
  • 2 slices of Mornging Star Vegetarian Bacon (Microwaved for 1:30)

Just layer the sandwich up.   I’m going to start boiling eggs for the week because it’s been an easy fix for me.  I had this egg in the fridge, ready to go, which is perfect when I’m running behind like I was this morning.  I had enough time to prepare this (literally a minute and 30 seconds) and then eat it before heading out the door today!  You could also add some sauteed veggies, cheese, or jelly to bring it up a notch!

MISSISSIPPI FUN FACTS

One thing you’ll learn quickly about me is how much I love the state I was raised in.  We fall behind in a lot of areas that get a lot of scrutiny, but I see the beauty in our state and we really do have a lot of unusual facts to be proud of!  I found some Mississippi Fun Facts and wanted to share some of those with you today!  Most of my information was found here & here.
